I’ve got a little something different for you this week, something I hope you’ll dig. This is a 45 minute mix of dub, reggae, and crossover chillout from some of the very best artists in their respective fields. From upbeat to contemplative, traditional to experimental, this mix covers a bit of everything. I hope you dig it as much as I do!

Wow. A great theme and selection of tracks. Reminded me of the now sadly defunct Puffcast. If anyone’s interested, I’ve still got all those episodes here: http://idisk.mac.com/japester-Public/puffcast/.
I absolutely love dub. The message doesn’t always get through to me but I find the music itself relaxing. That steady beat in always the same basic structure is what does it.
A note on the Thievery Corp.: If you’re a collector, you will be disappointed if you don’t buy the CD as opposed to the digital release. It comes in a thick cardboard case that looks very recycled and recyclable. Thievery Corp. always produces beautiful CD covers and the handmade appearance of this one is appealing.
Anji, are you aware of the astonishing work of Jahtari (www.jahtari.org)? This is a net label with a large collection of free dub titles. The music is a blend of old-school computer music (Commodore 64, Atari, “bleep”) and reggae rhythms. Quite incredible stuff, like a geek slant on the genre. My favourite artist is Disrupt, who has about the most music on the site. You might be able to play some on the Chillcast. Puffcast did, and that’s how I found out about the net label.
Please, more scattering of dub throughout the regular Chillcast, and more occasional features would be appreciated.
Hey Anji
great mix. any chance of an extended mix? i can’t get enough of this!
Peace.
glad you guys are enjoying the mix. had another nice comment on twitter. i’ll be sure to keep featuring whatever i find in future episodes!
Hey Anji,
Really enjoyed the reggae show. But I’m not entirely sure that you realise that dub reggae is reggae without the vocal. Yours was a superb reggae show, but it wasn’t a dub reggae show.
yes, i meant the tile as Dub, Reggae, Chillout – 3 terms. there were only two dub songs in the final mix. i think i had more previously, but the set was going over 45 mins.
Absolutely fantastic show. I LOVE reggae/dub. I’ve listened to it several times already. That’s how you know it’s good.
Anji – great show. It’s amazing to hear “Scratch” Perry again. You can’t keep a good man down.
I first came across him when I was at Island Records looking after Bob Marley and The Wailers.
