Chillcast Video #9: Shine

The fantastic French band, Shine, have been sharing songs from their wonderful debut album, The Common Station, with The Chillcast listeners for the past year. Now we can see the beautiful face behind the lovely voice in this video for “Rest Your Head On Me” directed by Vlad Martins and produced by RIOT. If you dig the band, join the Shine MySpace page and send in a photo of you with their CD for their fun fan photos album. Shine are playing a gig on April 22nd in London, so if you live nearby check out the deets on this Shine event on Facebook. Tune in to next week’s Chillcast audio show for more Shine music and a special contest!

My favorite gothtronica duo, Hungry Lucy, was kind enough to send me their DVD, Second Sight: Video Collection Vol. 1, from which today’s video hails. Enjoy this contemplative video for “Harvest” from their Before we Stand… We Crawl EP. And if you dig the band, be sure to subscribe to their fun and personal podcast, Tea with Hungry Lucy. You can buy both the CD and DVD featured this show directly from hungrylucy.com. Oh, and check out the Hungry Lucy remix on Lovespirals’ Motherless Child EP over at eMusic.

Daily Source Code Features Beth Hirsch

Adam Curry just played “Our Song” by Beth Hirsch on his Daily Source Code Fubar Friday Edition this week on my recommendation. I’d been trying to turn him onto Beth Hirsch’s Podsafe Music Network page for a few weeks and finally hit upon the perfect track from her new album, Wholehearted, for his show. Luckily, Beth was gracious enough to grant this song podsafe status for Adam’s use. As an added twist to the story, I sent my 2nd request to Adam via his Official Musicologist, Jersey Todd, whom I suspected would love Beth, as well. Looks I was right on both counts! Now, the funny part of the story is that after all my finagling, that nut Adam told his audience the song request came via “the incredibly desirable but ever unreachable Anji Bee.” Huh?

Beth is an amazing singer/songwriter and I absolutely love her new album! I’m a big supporter of her music on The Chillcast and want to spread the love. If you haven’t heard it already, be sure to check out my Beth Hirsch interview feature from last October, or the Chillcast Video Edition featuring Beth Hirsch from December. If you’re into music production yourself, you might want to take a crack at the Acid Planet Beth Hirsch Remix Contest for “Our Song.” But whatever you do, be sure to check out Wholehearted on eMusic. And speaking of eMusic, check out eMusic.com/chillcast for a special 14 day trial and 35 songs downloads free as part of my new Chillcast sponsorship!

Also included this issue is a great article on eMusic vs Amazon downloads, interviews with fellow podsafe artists Geoff Smith and Natalie Gelman, and a feature article with Rich Robinson of the Black Crowes, who recently released their new single to the Podsafe Music Network. By the way, you can check out tons of Lovespirals tracks on the PMN for use on podcasts, internet radio, Second Life DJ sets, and more!

Anji Competes on Pod 5 Idol for TibetAid

Pod 5 Idol [audio: http://media.podshow.com/media/15440/episodes/106113/podfive-106113-03-31-2008_pshow_235786.mp3]

The Pod 5 launched their very own Pod 5 Idol featuring acapella renditions of podsafe songs by podcasters and podsafe artists, competing for charity. All 15 contestants have pledged to donate $5 each to the charity of the winner’s choice. Participants include Matthew Ebel, Karmyn Tyler, KFC of Skydiver Girls, Cybster DJ, all 5 of the show hosts, and more. Oh, and of course, me! I am competing on behalf of TibetAid, to whom I have recently donated $5 via ChipIn. In return they sent me 3 “Compassion” reminder bracelets with a receipt for my contribution. Nice! Interestingly, 3 of us covered fellow contestant, Matthew Ebel (myself included), and Cybster DJ covered me!

Check out the show and vote for your favorite contestant – once a day, if possible – by emailing vote@podfive.com.

To celebrate the arrival of Spring and warm weather, I present a tasty mix of Brazilian chillout. In my opinion, the voices of Brasil are the sexiest of all and this episode is chock full of lilting Portuguese lyrics for your listening pleasure. Mix yourself a caipirinha and chill…
