Chillcast #393: Drunk In Love [NSFW]

Today’s 1 hour mix was partially inspired by the fact that The Weeknd dropped a new single for Valentine’s Day that is decidedly NOT safe for work. I ran into quite a few other naughty tunes while compiling my big Vday mix, actually. Note: While many of the songs on the Love Me Leave Me album were new productions of older collaborations with various online musicians, this was a brand new song written during the album recording sessions. Anji had long wanted to write a classic style Brazilian song, so she was thrilled when her long time musical partner, Ryan Lum, offered to help write a vintage Bossa Nova track with her. Not only did he perform all of the music, but he added in backing vocals, too, to recreate that Joao and Astrud Gilberto feel. The lyrics were taken from some poetry Anji had written years earlier, which she set to Ryan’s music.

Below Zero Features Love Me Leave Me

Respected San Francisco based downtempo and chillout radio show, Below Zero, is supporting ‘Love Me Leave Me‘ in a big way. Anji Bee is currently featured as their Break Through Artist, featured on the front page alongside Julian Lennon’s “Pick of the Week,” Lou Rhodes, formerly of Lamb. Two singles from the album are included in their Weekly Top 10. “Love Me Leave Me” has been charting for 6 weeks, with the highest rank of #6, while “Got All I Need” has been charting for 3 weeks, with the highest ranking being #2. “Put Some Music On,” charted for 3 weeks back in February and March 2012, when the single was first released by 3345 Music.

BZ also supported Anji’s collaboration with friends of the show and SF local band, Karmacoda, and Parisian singer/songwriter, Beth Hirsch, when the “Love Will Turn Your Head Around” single first debuted in 2011. The original mix charted for 2 weeks, hitting #3, and the remix collection was given a feature story, as well. Anji’s album includes the Lovespirals remix of this epic tune, Lovespirals being her band with producer/instrumentalist, Ryan Lum.

Speaking of Lovespirals, Below Zero supported the Lovespirals “Baeleric Chill” Mix of “Love Me Leave Me” when the single debuted last year. The mix charted for 4 weeks in July and August, hitting a high of #4.

Chillcast #392: Valentine’s Day Mix

Its the 7th Annual Cupid’s Hunt Podcast Collaboration which The Chillcast has participated in since its inception. I’m a sucker for love songs, so this is a mix I always look forward to putting together. This year I’ve got a pretty upbeat mix with a lot of danceable grooves, and a variety of love themes with the lyrics.
