“New Life” Lyrics

“New Life” Moosefrog Adrift (2007)

Putting one foot in front of the other
Plodding along like a mule
Keeping my nose to the grindstone
Seems there’s nothing else to do

But I’m glad, oh so glad
That I have you
to help me through

Keep on pushing baby
Keep on reaching higher
Someday you will achieve your goal
Someday comes sooner than you’d ever know

Life shouldn’t be so hard you say
Life is for living, love is for giving
Still we just struggle on
What else can we do

But I’m glad, oh so glad
That I have you
to help me through

Superbowl Sunday

Anji at Stuporbowl
Yesterday I attended Stuporbowl 2007, a very fun party that’s become a tradition with the B-Siders. Last year it didn’t happen because the bowling alley they’d been having it at for years was closed down, but this year a few kind folks put together a new venue that was bigger and better, near LAX. The football is really just an excuse to get together, the DJs, dancing, theme costumes and bowling take center stage. The partying was definitely a lot more low-key than when I first started going in the 90’s, but it was great to catch up with some folks I hadn’t seen in ages! Almost forgot — it was so crazy to see Kevin Rose in the GoDaddy commerical!!! He is so cute…

I continue to mix it up here on The Chillcast with a bit of electronica, indie rock, dub, and soul – and all of the bands are new to the show, too, which is kinda cool. No theme this week, just some really tasty tracks. This is going up early so I’m free to party on Superbowl Sunday, hee hee hee!

A Very Merry Unbirthday To Me!

Pooh & Anji

Thanks to everyone who sent me birthday wishes yesterday, including fellow ShowGirls, Cali and Karla. Ryan took me to Disneyland for the second consecutive year — as much to get his Dole Whip fix as to show me a good time, I suspect. Ha! He got a bunch of cute pix of me with Disney characters, and Pooh here was actually getting a bit fresh. You’ll have to check out the next episode of Chillin’ with Lovespirals for all the details…

Anji & PizzaBabe in Second Life

Anji & Jenny "PizzaBabe"

Dropped into Coffee with Crayon in Second Life this morning and met PizzaBabe (aka Jenny Shackle). She gave me a grand tour of Shackles Shack, including her brand new theme room motel. Looks like it’ll be quite the party palace! Once it gets into full swing, it’ll be like a scene out of The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty. Very naughty! I really loved the trailer park area outisde; made me want to quote Pink Flamingos.

Chillin’ with Anji Bee #18

Can’t stop making these dang things… More of my latest doings, including the newest Lovespirals recording, my new celebrity yard sale dress, and details of my trip to the Queen Mary. Be forewarned that I used a different format for the show this week. I think I’ll go back to the old one next time. OH RATS – I didn’t update the episode number in the art. Sigh… Nevertheless, please go Digg my podcasts now!

The Mandarins: Simone de Beauvoir

Last night I finished reading Simone de Beauvoir: A Biography – all 600 something pages of it – then launched right into her own 600+ page book, The Mandarins. Man, the first chapter alone was so poignant; I found myself exclaiming, “Harsh!” out loud after reading the final scene between Henri and Paula. I can certainly see why the friends she patterned these characters after would be upset… I have to admit that this is actually the first de Beauvoir book I’ve read. I picked up the biography because I’ve read so much about the turn of the century French art and intellectual scene, I though I might enjoy her story, as well.

I’d read Jean-Paul Sartre’s Nausea, a few years back. I found it in a box of Ryan’s college books. He said he didn’t care for it, but I enjoyed it. Of course, I also enjoyed Crime and Punishment, which a lot of folks seem to find unreadable these days. I have a pretty high tolerance for “unreadable” literature in general, owning a fairly complete collection of William S. Burroughs and more than one book each by Gertrude Stein and James Joyce. (I was going to type a tongue-sticking-out smiley here, but on second thought, it seemed inappropriate.)

My favorite writer for years and years was Anais Nin, whose prose work is also a bit ah… what is the word I’m searching for? Formless, perhaps? I think everyone agrees that it is her vast journal writing that is most fascinating, but still, I own everything. Fills up a whole bookshelf. Perhaps one day I’ll make a page on the site to list some of my favorite books.
