Lovespirals On New Projekt Holiday Compilation

Lovespirals recorded a brand new rendition of Anji Bee’s original track “Happy Holidays” for a new Projekt Records holiday music compilation. This new version is classic Lovespirals dream pop with its soaring ebo guitar and glacial tempo. Anji’s vocal are by turns sensual and sublime, with a mournfulness befitting a shoegazer version.

Ornamental is available in either gatefold CD or digital download from Bandcamp and other online music services.

From Projekt Records:

Stuff your stocking with Projekt’s special blend of steampunk, dark cabaret, gothic, dreampop, Medieval and ethereal-flavored winter classics. Ornamental celebrates in style with one disc of holiday traditionals and one disc of originals in a holiday mood, all designed to woefully delight your friends and puzzle a few of your family members.

This holiday 2-CD set contains 20 previously-unreleased tracks recorded exclusively for this compilation as well as three tracks only available on obscure compilations. It’s an artfully-wrapped holiday treat direct from your favorite Projekt artists with some well-chosen guests.

The cover features Deerboy and Sapling sharing secrets by Canadian artist Paulina Cassidy. She taps into a world of magical creatures, creating and sharing her own brew of whimsy. Her unique vision and fanciful designs are collected worldwide.

Lovespirals ‘Feel So Good EP’ Out

Lovespirals have just released a 40 minute, 9-track extended single of “Feel So Good,” from their 2010 album, Future Past. Last December, Sony Acid Planet held a remix contest for Lovespirals’ funky, Pink Floyd-esque, retro electro-rock tune, and over 40 producers put their own unique stamp on the original track. The Feel So Good EP features the very best of the bunch.

Stream the Feel So Good EP from Bandcamp:

There’s the slinky trip hop grooves of Yumenomado’s grand prize winning “Film Noir Mix” and Noizz Factor’s jazzy “Glamour Mix,” both of which have a decidedly organic feel. Or check out the more electronic oriented mixes by DJ Chris and National Pool, who rely more on loops and classic drum machine patterns. If you’re into heavy beats, then the Electer and 7 Day Visa mixes should fit the bill. Def Men Walking took the song in a completely different direction with the addition of MC work and an old school Manchester feel. And then there’s Jack Ketch’s “Peckaries Parts 1, 2 & 3” which takes the song’s most Floydian elements and constructs an ode to the classic rock band that David Gilmour himself would likely chuckle over.

Anji Bee‘s soulful vocals hold the release together with their delicate balance of earthy sensuality and otherworldly ethereality, with each mix playing up different aspects. While some producers left the arrangement and vocal sound nearly untouched from Ryan Lum’s original mix, others played with sampling or pitch to use the voice more as a musical element.

This is a digital-only release available on most major online music stores including Bandcamp, linked below.

Thanks to all of the bands and producers that participated in the remix contest, as well as to our friend, Jamahl Richardson, for his 7 Day Visa remix. If you dig their remixes, be sure to check out their original music. Thanks also to Scott of ithinkitsnice for his amazing artwork.

Chillcast #276: Rendezvous

This week’s show is extra special for several reasons; I’m announcing the release of a brand new Lovespirals remix EP in honor of band founder Ryan Lum’s birthday and I’ve got a remix of the brand new Karmacoda single. So why did I call this episode “Rendezvous,” you ask? Well, because there were randomly 2 songs with that very same name in my set. Who can ignore that coincidence? Anyway, I hope you enjoy this set of downtempo, minimal tech, and deep house. Happy Birthday, Ryan!

Chillin’ with Lovespirals #83

After podfading for 3 months, Ryan and Anji return to the podcast to fill you in on everything the band has been up to recently. The duo realized that some major life changes and events have taken up a lot of their usual creative time, including having air conditioning installed in both home studios, upgrading WordPress on the band website and hunting down various resulting issues, planting and maintaining a fairly extensive organic home garden, and taking care of Monster the Cat after a sudden turn in his health. The busy duo also found time to take a few trips to see friends and attend concerts, and still was able to work on a new series of songs. Plus Anji had several new collaborations released, created a video for “Try To Forget,” did an interview with MusicTap, and more. Listen in for all the details and hear an intimate demo of Lovespirals most recent song in progress at the close of the show.

Chillin’ with Lovespirals #82

Ryan and Anji return after a month’s hiatus to reveal all of the work they’ve secretly been up to in their Chillcuts studios. Its a little known fact that the Chillin’ with Lovespirals podcast turned 5 recently, but the fact that Anji’s podcast, The Chillcast, just turned 5 — due in large part to a new music compilation she just released. 5 Years Of Chillin’ is a 14 track, one hour plus collection of music that represents the overall vibe of Anji’s weekly show. A brand new, unreleased song by Lovespirals is featured, as well as a brand new single by Anji Bee. Listen to the show for complete details on the release, including a lot of backstory about the inspiration, creation, and completion of the album, as well as the various relationships the band have to each of the contributors. The show closes with Lovespirals’ new song, “Try To Forget.”

Anji Bee Releases 5 Years of Chillin’

Download 5 Years Of Chillin’ for FREE at anjibee.bandcamp.com

March 2011 marks the 5th Anniversary of The Chillcast with Anji Bee, the twice-nominated “Best Podsafe Music Podcast,” on the Mevio Network. Since 2006, Bee has had over 5 million downloads of nearly 300 audio episodes and 55 video episodes, featuring approximately 1,500 bands and artists in a wide range of electronica genres guaranteed to soothe you and groove you.

To mark this historic occasion, Bee has assembled an hour long compilation, 5 Years Of Chillin’, featuring brand new unreleased tracks by Chillcast regulars MoShang, Chill Factor-5, 7 Day Visa, Lovespirals (Bee’s band with partner, Ryan Lum) and Anji Bee, herself — plus hard to find tracks by Adam Fielding, Mr. Meeble, and The Grooveblaster, as well as a few favorite songs by Ernesto + Markus Z, Under, Science for Girls, Sunburn in Cyrpus, Steve Kilbey + Martin Kennedy, and Karmacoda (who collaborated with Lovespirals on a modern version of the classic Americana spiritual, “Motherless Child”). The album was mastered by Robert Rich of Soundscape Productions, with assistance by Lum – who also shot the cover photograph – while Bee designed the album artwork and attendant promotional graphics.

All of the artists have generously donated their music gratis, and Bee will be making this musical collection available for free download through music sites including Bandcamp, Soundcloud, Last.FM, and Mixcloud. A small pressing of eco-wallet promotional CDs will be available soon.

On top of releasing the 5 Years of Chillin’ comp, Bee is hosting a series of CD giveaway contests on The Chillcast in March and April, from artists including Nu Shooz, Balligomingo, and Karmacoda. Come join the celebration over at www.anjibee.com!

Chillin’ with Lovespirals #81: Remix Winner

Anji and Ryan of Lovespirals have selected the Grand Prize winner and Honorable Mention of the Sony ACIDplanet Remix Contest for “Feel So Good”! We know that 40 some producers have been anxiously awaiting our decision since December 28, while we’ve been sorting through all of their entries. Turns out there were several really solid mixes and plenty of great musical ideas! Once again, we thought we’d make our winner’s announcement with a podcast, so we could share a bunch of our faves with the fans and give the producers our thoughts on their tracks. The remixes are presented in no particular order, aside from the winner and runner-up; the Grand Prize Winner is presented first and the Honorable Mention is presented last. The grand prize winner will receive a copy of ACID Pro, 5 ACID loop libraries plus all 4 Lovespirals albums on CD, and will be featured on an upcoming new remix single for “Feel So Good.” Hopefully several other mixes from this list will be included in that, as well. Details on that soon… Thanks again to all the very talented producers for taking part in this fun competition, and thanks to Sony for hosting it!
