Once again, I welcome to the show San Francisco band, Karmacoda. For the second time this month, I’ve got a lovely live recording of the band filmed at Dolby Labs Studio featuring Heather Pierce on lead vocals, B on guitar and backing vocals, and Eric Matsuno on stand up bass, with additional accompaniment by Issac Ho on piano and Mie Araki on drums. Enjoy this lush, jazzy, version of “Feel The Weight” from Karmacoda’s new album, Eternal. Check out the next Chillcast weekly audio show (Chillcast #288) to hear the album version of “Feel The Weight” and to hear about a very cool Karmacoda ‘Eternal‘ CD & vinyl contest – especially for listeners of The Chillcast!

Today I’m proud to present the WORLD PREMIER of a brand new live acoustic video by my friends, Karmacoda. The band assembled in the Dolby Lab Theatre in their home town of San Francisco to perform the heartbreaking song, “I Am Just Not Listening Any Longer,” from their new album, Eternal. This live recording features Heather Pierce on lead vocals, B on guitar and backing vocals, and Eric Matsuno on stand up bass, with additional accompaniment by Issac Ho on piano and Mie Araki on drums. Karmacoda recorded several more tracks during this session, so check back in another 2 weeks time for another lovely live rendition of a song from Eternal here on Chillcast Video!
This week I present my second artist feature with San Francisco band, Karmacoda. This time around we actually met up in Chillcast studio to chat live and in-person about their 4th album, Eternal, released last month. We had a really great time, which I think you’ll be able to hear in our conversation. Since we already got into the band’s history and past releases in my 2007 Chillcast Karmacoda artist feature, this time we focused solely on their new material. I close out the show with the premier of their brand new live acoustic recording of “Feel The Weight” — watch for the video on the next Chillcast Video!
Think of this episode of The Mothpod as a way to time travel back to July 31st so you can join hostess, Anji Bee, in celebrating Ryan Lum’s birthday. With a mix of electronic and acoustic music and a blend of male and female vocals, this selection of love songs and summer themed tunes is sure to please the most discriminating time traveler. Throw in a couple brand new songs by Miss Bee herself, and you’ve got yourself a sweet little time capsule! Sorry I forgot to post this show when it was first released…
I’ve been incredibly busy lately with lots of new music to promote, but still I must admit that I’m blessed. Last week I saw my favorite young tennis player, Ernests Gulbis, breeze through his 2nd ever tournament win here in Los Angeles, this weekend I celebrated my beloved hubby’s birthday, and next weekend is our 6th anniversary. Historically we’ve kept our relationship on the down low, but this year I decided to tell the world, and the lyrics to “Blessed” were born. You’ll hear that song this week, along with a host of jazzy and soulful downtempo and deep house. Enjoy!

San Francisco band, Karmacoda, invited both Anji Bee and Ryan Lum of Lovespirals to collaborate with them on music for their 4th album, Eternal — out now on iTunes and other digital and CD retailers. The album will also be available as a limited edition, audiophile grade 192g, blue vinyl LP on August 9th. Check www.karmacoda.com for purchase details.
The ear-catching “Love Will Turn Your Head Around” is arguably the gem of the album; dark, languid, and teasingly dangerous sounding: in short, everything a trip hop song should, in the ears of this listener, be.
“Epic” includes guitar work by Ryan Lum, as well as Rhodes piano by Eamonn Flynn of SF duo, Under. The Epic Single had its world premier on The Chillcast Episode #275. In addition to the original album and reprise mixes, the single includes an upbeat dance remix by Andy Sybilrud of SF electronica act, Return To Mono. Karmacoda frontwoman, Heather Pierce, has said “Epic” is her “favorite song” and it will likely be yours, too, once you hear her sultry siren’s call on this jazzy trip hop torch song.
All Music Guide’s Ned Raggett wrote:
On their 2011 album, released ten years after their debut, Karmacoda demonstrate that they’ve become stalwarts of their own particular scene, inspired into existence by trip-hop and finding their own easygoing way around downtempo music inspired by Massive Attack‘s slow mood-out crawls.
As long time fans and friends of Karmacoda, Lovespirals were honored to be included in the creative process of this very talented band. Be sure to check out recent episodes of The Chillcast with Anji Bee to hear these tracks and more from Karmacoda’s fantastic new album, which debuted at #191 on the CMJ Radio 200 Chart!
This week’s show is extra special for several reasons; I’m announcing the release of a brand new Lovespirals remix EP in honor of band founder Ryan Lum’s birthday and I’ve got a remix of the brand new Karmacoda single. So why did I call this episode “Rendezvous,” you ask? Well, because there were randomly 2 songs with that very same name in my set. Who can ignore that coincidence? Anyway, I hope you enjoy this set of downtempo, minimal tech, and deep house. Happy early birthday to Ryan, btw!
Today Monster and I bring you a very excellent show, replete with the World Premier of the brand new single from Karmacoda, appropriately titled “Epic.” The lovely Miss Heather Pierce even pops in for this very special occasion. As if that weren’t enough, we also have a great free download from the one and only Moby! There are lots of great new tunes in this mix of chillout, downtempo, poppy electronica and deep house with loads of lovely female vocals. Enjoy!
San Francisco band, Karmacoda, recently released the first single from their upcoming fourth album, Eternal. “Love Will Turn Your Head Around” is multi-artist collaboration featuring vocals and lyrics by — not only Anji Bee — but also one of her musical idols, Beth Hirsch, who was famously featured on Air’s hit album Moon Safari. “Love Will Turn Your Head Around” debuted at #3 on the Below Zero Top 10 chart for April 17th, and has been featured on the Pure Bliss Vocals site, Dave’s Lounge, Properly Chilled, SomaFM’s Lush station, Kimberly Wilson’s Tranquility du Jour, The Mothpod, Expand Your Musical Horizons, and of course, The Chillcast, where is was first premiered.
You can purchase the Love Will Turn Your Head Around Single on iTunes. It includes the original 6 and a half minute version, plus a radio edit. Karmacoda’s album, Eternal, is due out August 2nd, 2011.
You can also listen to the single on YouTube, Spotify, and other digital music services.
This week I’m finally announcing the winners of 3 recent contests here on The Chillcast. We’ll also be hearing tracks from Karmacoda, Grooveblaster and Pinku Vaaty, along with a host of brand new releases. Fairly heavy on the vocal chillout side of things, this episode also includes a dash of trance, minimal tech house, and super soulful vocal house to round it all out. All in all, its a groovy feel good kinda set. Enjoy! Oh, and don’t forget to nab the 2 free downloads included.
