Lovespirals Release Happy Holidays 2 Song Single

Out now on Bandcamp are two very different takes on the same holiday original, penned by Lovespirals vocalist, Anji Bee. While the lyrics are decidedly melancholy, the original 2010 recording adds an upbeat twist with its catchy disco house style, replete with wah wah guitar and disco strings. The 2012 version is classic Lovespirals dream pop with it’s soaring ebo guitar and glacial tempo. Anji’s vocal are, by turns, sensual and sublime, with a certain cheekiness to the house version and a mournfulness on the shoegazer version. There’s more than one side to this complex duo, and this single is the perfect illustration of their musical and emotional duality. Bandcamp offers affordable digital downloads in your choice of audio format including high-quality download in MP3, ALAC (Apple Lossless), AAC, Flac, Ogg Vorbis, WAV and AIFF formats.

Anji Bee Interview on Inside The Machine

Anji Bee is the featured artist on the second episode of Inside The Machine, the new audio show of Nicholas Young, founder of Original Machine. She and Nicholas sat down for an hour long interview on Skype, which actually went a bit longer as the two enjoyed their discussion of independent music, radio, podcasting, and fine arts so much. The show revolves around the back stories of 4 of Anji’s songs, “Love Me Leave Me,” “Hand In Hand,” “Love Will Turn Your Head Around,” and “Put Some Music On (Intensity of Sound Retro Funk Mix),” all of which are included in full on the show.

2017 UPDATE: This station is now defunct, but I archived it over on my InternetArchive account: AnjiBeeOnInsideTheMachine

Love Will Turn Your Head Around (Lovespirals Remix) Lyrics

Love Will Turn Your Head Around (Lovespirals Remix) by Karmacoda + Beth Hirsch + Anji Bee Love Will Turn You Head Around – The Remixes (2013) Love Me Leave Me LP (2013)

Love will turn your head around
Turn turn turn… (x6)

Turn the lights down low, light a candle
Turn my stereo on
I’m turning circles, here by myself
Dreaming of turning you on
Dreaming of turning you on
Dreaming of turning you…

Love will turn your head around

You always give your very best away
And it doesn’t matter who can see
You’re the only one that counts for me
Love is holy
When the tension gathers all around
And you feel like something’s coming down
Hold your head up, walk your ground
Love is holy

Love will turn your head around

Love
Stay
Love
Stay

What do we want its the tip of the tongue
I’m here with you now, its the song that we’ve sung
Stay
What do we want its the tip of the tongue
I’m here with you now, its the song that we’ve sung
Ooh stay
Turning in circles
Here
What do we want its the tip of the tongue
I’m here with you now, its the song that we’ve sung
Ooh stay
Turning in circles
What do we want its the tip of the tongue
I’m here with you now, its the song that we’ve sung
Love will turn your head around
Turn your head around
Stay here
Turning in circles
Take it all
Turn your, turn your head around
Stay here
Turning in circles, here by myself
Take it all
Dreaming of turning you on
Love will turn your head around
Turning in circles dreaming of turning you on
Stay here
Turn your head around
Turning in circles, here by myself
And I will lay here
Dreaming of turning you on
Don’t you stay, and I will lay
Love will turn your head around
Head around
Dreaming of turning you
And I will stay here
Love will turn your head around
Head around
Don’t you stay
Dreaming of turning you
Dreaming of turning you
Dreaming of turning you

[Lyrics in bold by Anji Bee (BMI)]

Note: The original mix of this song appears on the 2011 Karmacoda album, Eternal, as well as a single released that same year. The single also includes a radio edit. The radio edit is the version included on the limited edition blue vinyl release of Eternal. Also of note is that Anji re-recorded her vocals for this new version of the song, whereas Beth, B, and Heather’s vocals are all taken from the original recordings. Anji arranged the vocal samples for the Lovespirals mix, set to new music created by Ryan Lum, including lovely dream pop guitar work..

Happy Holidays (Lyrics)

“Happy Holidays” – Anji Bee Single (2010) + Lovespirals Ornamental (2012)

I hung up the lights
They’re blinking merrily
Its got me thinking back
To how things used to be
I’m feeling kinda blue
From remembering you
And how I used to feel

I would give you a call
If I only knew how to
Just to say happy holidays
Happy holidays to you
(x2)

I went to a party
They’re drinking merrily
Its got me thinking back
To how things used to be
I’m feeling kinda blue
From remembering you
And how I used to feel

I would give you a call
If I only knew how to
Just to say happy holidays
Happy holidays to you
(x2)

I would give you a call
If I only knew how to
Just to say happy holidays
Happy holidays to you
(x2)

Note: This song was originally recorded and released in 2010 as an Anji Bee single, in a disco house style. Oddly enough, the holiday track sprung from a discarded song called, “One More.” Scrapping that song’s vocals, she found some holiday themed lyrics she’d penned several years before and came up with a whole new vocal melody for the abandoned house track. In 2012, Anji’s band, Lovespirals, were invited to contribute something to a new holiday compilation on Projekt Records. Rather than cover a tired Christmas classic, the duo reinterpreted “Happy Holidays” in a melancholic dream pop style.

Anji Bee essay in ‘First Time I Heard Kate Bush’ by Scott Heim

Anji Bee contributed 1 of the 39 essays about Kate Bush for the “The First Time I Heard” book series out now on Amazon Kindle and Apple Books.

THE FIRST TIME I HEARD KATE BUSH is Part V in an ongoing series where musicians and writers tell their stories of first hearing the music of an iconic artist or band. In this fifth volume (following the first four installments, which covered Joy Division/New Order, Cocteau Twins, David Bowie, and The Smiths), thirty-nine different musicians and writers remember their initial experiences with hearing Kate Bush, the brilliant, eccentric, influential, and immensely talented British singer/songwriter whose albums include her debut “The Kick Inside,” the classic “The Dreaming” and “Hounds of Love,” and the recent “50 Words For Snow.” The “First Time I Heard” book series is edited by Scott Heim, a novelist (Mysterious Skin, We Disappear) who is also a longtime music fan.

Rosecliff Press

Certainly I could not have imagined such a ravishing creature as she; all limpid eyes and sensual crimson mouth, luminous pale skin contrasting with vivid red hair, at once ferocious yet somehow fragile.

Cast Out Of Paradise (Lyrics)

“Cast Out Of Paradise”  by Bloody Mary & SIS feat. Anji Bee from Potluck (2011)

All they ever wanted
Was to be left in peace
But western man
Can’t seem to leave
Well enough alone
Foolishly
He believes
That he
Can improve
What God creates
Man destroys
On a whim
And out of greed
Without true need
Acting out
As if cast out
Of paradise

NOTE: I wrote this poem back in mid-2008 without any particular use in mind. In January of 2011, Bloody Mary sent me a rough musical idea which was basically just a strong beat with a wisp of ambient keyboard atmosphere. I thought a mix of spoken word and traditional singing could be interesting and so I chose to work with a poem, rather than a lyric. I recorded everything myself in my podcast studio and sent the files over via the Internet. Bloody Mary and SIS cut up the files and created a 13+ minute track which really expanded a lot upon their original ideas. I uploaded a shortened edit of the song to SoundCloud just to highlight my contribution to the piece.

Chillcast #270: Continuation

Continuing on in a similar vein from last episode, this week I present a moody set of minimal tech house and other related styles. Most of the songs have wonderful vocals, though there is an instrumental or two, as well. I love the hints of soulfulness that kick in towards the end. Lots of brand new tunes included, and a couple are even free downloads! BTW, I’m very excited to present my very latest musical collaboration… I’m even more happy to tell you that my precious little buddy, Monster, is doing better!
