To celebrate the start of a new year, I put together a music video for the title track of our Lovespirals album, “Life Goes On,” featuring some of the more peaceful moments I filmed over the past 12 tumultuous months.
I haven’t uploaded a new episode of the The Chillcast to Mixcloud since Valentine’s Day, but I still keep making playlists! Even though I’m an Apple user, I shared my end of the year playlist over on Spotify, as well, because it seems to be the more popular service. Hope you enjoy this mix. Feel free to follow me on either streaming platform for more playlists.
The Spotify player above will allow you to stream the full playlist (with commercial breaks) even if you don’t have an account. The Apple Music player below will only play you clips of the songs if you do not have an account.
I am proud to announce that I’ve just released my second independently published book, Happy Healthy Vegan Cookbook. This follow up to by 2016 debut cookbook, Keep It Carbed, Baby!, highlights the more savory side of my oil-free whole food plant based cooking style with 40 new easy to follow recipes focused on pantry staples and ingredients already found in most kitchens. Not only did I develop the recipes, I also took care of the food styling and photography, and handled all the design and layout of the book for print, PDF, Apple Book, and Amazon Kindle formats. It was a huge undertaking, so I’m very excited to have completed this project while under quarantine this year.
The Anji Bee Mixcloud page now has an archive of Chillcast artist interview features. I really loved working on these more complicated episodes of The Chillcast with Anji Bee and wanted to make sure that they are available — not only for fans of the podcast — but for fans of the artists, as well. I created a playlist of the artists features to make them easier to find, too. Start listening to the interview features FREE on Mixcloud with this handy player:
Artists with Chillcast interview features include Beth Hirsh, Science for Girls, The Grooveblaster, Lol Tolhurst of Levinhurst, Karmacoda, Lovespirals, Paul Mac Innes, Eresto, Paul & Price, MoShang, Sunburn in Cyprus, Hungry Lucy and your hostess, Anji Bee.
Lovespirals are featured on a new album. “Tim Where Are You Now?” by Sam Rosenthal of Black Tape for a Blue Girl was created to honor what would have been the 100th birthday of Tim Leary this month. It’s a collaborative album packed full of special guests including Lovespirals’ Anji Bee and Ryan Lum (on tracks 6 & 8). “PSY PHI love means High Fidelity” pulls vocal inspiration from the original Star Trek series theme song, and musical inspiration from the classic exotica lounge albums of that same era. This song also features special guests Byron Metcalf and Martin Bowes. The CD is available on Bandcamp, where you can opt to purchase a digital download on the “Name Your Price” deal (meaning you can pay $0 if you want…), and it’s also available to stream on all digital platforms, including Apple Music, Spotify, and YouTube.
I am super proud to present the latest Lovespirals song!
Lovespirals “Why Not Today?” Music Video
Extremely chill vibes with super smooth production, “Why Not Today?” pulls from from Lovespirals’ r&b/soul side with a little jazz and blues twist. Melancholic, dreamy, and filled with soft yearning for a better time and place, the video is a lovely reminder of the healing power of nature, even in this time of human disconnection and unease. I created the music video, as well as wrote the lyrics, performed the vocals, and aided in the songwriting and production.
"Why Not Today" from Lovespirals 'Smile - Single' 2022
When does the happiness begin
When does the love come flooding in
When does the pain fade away
Will it be tomorrow
Why not today
Why not today
When will my grey skies turn to blue
When will I take on a different hue
When will the sun come out to play again
Will it be tomorrow
Why not today
Why not today
I’ve waited patiently (patiently)
But I have yet to see (yet to see)
Joy wing its way to me
So I’m left wondering
Will it be tomorrow
Why not today
Why not today
NOTE: This song was originally released July 3, 2020 as a single and music video on Bandcamp and YouTube. Many listeners asked us to add “Why Not Today” to Spotify and Apple Music so we included a new mixdown in our 2022 single.
A new digital release called Connected (Single) is now available. This collaborative song from Anji Bee features simple mantra a of a lyric that was inspired by the fledgling podcasting community back in 2008. The song idea resurfaced in 2010 for the Creative Commons community, and now in 2020, it’s up on Bandcamp for the first time as a message for the whole world.
We are connected.
You can read more about the 3 versions of “Connected” (acapella, Ghost4Hire mix and Fave Nitemare mix) on the individual song pages of the Anji Bee Bandcamp account. This is a Bandcamp EXCLUSIVE.
Youngblood Records recently released a t-shirt featuring a doodle I drew for my late 80’s straight edge hardcore fanzine, Positive Influence. This was taken from issue #4, released February 1988. The first run of this “Scene News” design was on a goldenrod tee to match the color of this issue’s cover, but this new run in pink is super cute. If you want a piece of Anji Bee OR straight x edge history, pickup this limited edition tee while you still can! Available at shop.youngblood-records.com
Tickled that @youngbloodrecords wanted to collab with me for their vintage hardcore found art t-shirt collection! This is one of several pen and ink drawings I made to headline the Scene News section of Positive Influence zine. This particular doodle appeared on the inside cover of issue no 4 and the original piece of art reads, “Scene News For Feb.”
