CSB was the first to respond to my “5 Things Meme” challenge earlier this month. Wonder if anyone else will realize I tagged them?
BTW, I didn’t get naked for CSB in SL, much to his annoyance…

Crikey! I just noticed that C.C. Chapman had “tagged me” for that 5 Things Meme. Gulp! I guess I owe it to him to try and come up with 5 things people might not know about me and 5 other poor saps to do the same. Darned chain mail!
So let’s see, I’ll tag Roger Smalls, Comic Strip Blogger, Karen & Karla of Rumor Girls, and Soccergirl. We’ll see if any of them actually do it or not…
I’m finishing up Deidre Bair’s Simone de Beauvoir: A Biography at long last. I picked this up used at a college book sale back in the late 90’s and somehow never got around to reading it. My M.O. is to buy a small stack of books and stash them away for future reading, so I guess I stashed this one too well… I usually mix up my reading between biography, classic literature, spirituality, journals/letter collections, and a little contemporary fiction every now and then (generally given to me by someone) so I don’t get too bogged down by any one type of book. I don’t tend to read much self-help or how-to books, though I do have a decent collection of Arts and Crafts movement books for inspiration with my Craftsman bungalow.
I’ve been an avid reader ever since I was a tiny child; I had already read all the Dick and Jane books before starting kindergarten so my teacher had me assist the other children in learning to read, even the Spanish speaking kids! I used to spend whole weekends devouring books, until we got our first computer… But still, I find that nothing can replace the cozy feeling that curling up with a book in the tub gives me. Or reading in bed before going to sleep. Or sitting at the breakfast table with a cup of coffee and good book. Heck, where’s my book? What am I doing at the computer?
Anyway, I always kind of enjoy seeing what other folks are reading, so I figured I’d make that a new part of my blog, for the curious. I’m actually also reading Thoreau’s Walden, which I like to bring with me to the beach because it just seems wrong to read it indoors.
I guess some people get off on large crowds, loud music, and all night drinking, but that’s really just not my style. I threw an intimate dinner party at my house, which was a first for me on New Year’s Eve. We didn’t party hard, just ate a lot of great food, drank a bit of wine, and hung out. The nice thing about not overdoing the booze on New Year’s Eve is feeling fresh the next morning and ready to take on New Year’s Day. Nothing rejuvenates me like quiet time spent in nature! The fewer the people, the better. No cars, no machines, nothing but sunlight, water, and plants… and a special someone to share it with. My new year’s day was just perfect. Got out onto the trail just as everyone else was leaving, had a 2 hour hike in perfect weather, got back to the car before dark, then had a tasty meal – including freshly juiced pineapple, yum – before driving back home to take a nice hot bath and relax. Ahh…
Folks have been emailing me with possible reasons for my recent stat spike on The Chillcast; Frank suggested it was my appearance on the RumorGirls #73, for instance. Now I’m thinking it was my expletive laden audio feedback on the Daily Source Code #508. I teased Adam about Giselle and Adam, in turn, teased Patricia about me… Guess that got some of his listeners curious, huh?
I just had some good news from the higher ups at PodShow. I’ve mentioned in my podcasts that I have a few irons in the fire, but now it seems those babies are nice ‘n’ hot. So it looks like I’ll be pretty busy come the new year. When I stop to think about it, I’ve accomplished an awful lot in one year. I know it’s a little early for the New Year’s post, but I’ve never been one for traditional holiday activities, anyway… I’ll save the official announcements for launch, but suffice to say that you will be hearing more from me soon.
This reminds me of something Julien spoke of in his latest podcast. He said that we can each be our own “channel” via podcasts, vidcasts, blogs, etc. I think that’s what I’ve become since I gathered my various feeds into the one site. If you’re into me and my content, you can pretty much tune into anjibee.com every day to see what’s new. And I’ll certainly be looking for ways to expand on my site’s concept next year, as I only just created it — what, 3 months ago?
Looks like it’s been a month to the day that I proclaimed my love for Julien Smith, and I stand by that claim today. In fact, I love him more with every passing podcast, blog entry, and – now – Flickr photo! Seriously, though, what an amazing guy. I had no idea who I was talking to last month, but having followed up on my glib pledge to be the charter member of his cult following, well, I am truly smitten. Lately he’s been talking about how he hesitates to promote In Over Your Head as a Hip Hop music show because people are apparently closed minded about the genre. That is really too bad, because not only does Jules offer more than a mere music podcast, underground Hip Hop has more to offer than the potential listener might suppose, particularly when it is selected by the knowledgeable and socio-politically conscious Jules. Oh! And he actually does play more than Hip Hop, including some very hip Electro tunes. So if you haven’t yet, go check his shit out!
I participated in the democratic process today by getting off my ass and voting. Yay, me! I was considering playing the Biddies “Cast that Ballot” on The Chillcast this week, but my listener base is so throughly international that I decided against it. But I hope any Americans reading this did their bit today, too!
Went down to Bolsa Chica again, and took some photos of the recently completed inlet, which I believe is the final phase of the Bolsa Chica Wetlands Restoration Project. I’m so happy that the developers who were trying to fill in and build on the wetlands were stopped, and not only that, but that the wetlands are now in the process of recovering some of their former glory. Its only been a few weeks since the creation of the inlet, but already the water is cleaner and the birds more abundant. It’s wonderful to see!
Holy crap! I’m owed money that I didn’t even know about. Good thing Sam just forwarded me this NY Times story about Soundexchange. I called them just now and determined that they do not have Lovespirals listed, and thus I would have missed out on performance royalties for plays on Pandora, Rhapsody and many other sites and services that I know my music is included on. Since I get checks from BMI, I thought I was covered, but apparently there’s more than one company gathering my money up for me. Sheesh there’s a lot to keep track of when you’re an indie artist!
