Chillcast #288: Haunting

I’m not really into holiday themed music, per se, but occasionally I’ll select music to help put you into the spirit of things. Today’s mix is filled with haunting piano and otherworldly vocals, much like September’s “Sad Pianos” episode. If you dug that show, you will love today’s show as well. Chillcast #249: All New

One might argue that today’s show is the first real episode of 2011 for The Chillcast with Anji Bee. Unlike last week’s collection of my Chillcast Favorites of 2010 (aka Top 20 of 2010), this episode is composed of all new music. I’ve got some brand new releases, additional tracks from a few late-2010 releases, and one or two releases that slipped by me until just recently. All in all, it’s a great little mix with lots of great vocals in a sweet array of moods and styles. Plus there’s several truly excellent free downloads! Oh, and something I forgot to mention; January 9th was the 5th Anniversary of the very first recorded episode of The Chillcast — under the original name “The Chillcuts Chillcast.” More on that soon…

Divasonic is back again on Chillcast Video with another great San Francisco-based musical collaboration with Jaswho?. “Push” hails from the new album, NuDroid Musik, which is the debut album of veteran live musician, Jaswho?. This music video was created by Divasonic using stunning photography by Jessica Vermette of VoxInLux. By the way, after recording my intros I found out I should have pronounced the artist’s name as “Jays-Who” — sorry Jay!

This week’s musical guest is Artemis with Divasonic. These two lovely ladies of electronica from San Francisco make their debut to the vidcast with a brand new collaboration. As I promised on the Chillcast #243, I’ve got the premier of their video for “Truth (Divasonic Cotton Candy Original Version)”. This song is from the duo’s brand new single which includes 8 other fantastic mixes by David G. Earl (aka SFLogicNinja), Colfax, Tyler Stone (Sutro), Daniel Durrett, Celeste Lear, Mijo and Chris James. Sorry this week’s show is a bit late. Things are always crazy around the holidays! But I promise it was worth the wait. I’ve got some great new releases this week. A ton of new music just flooded in from bands, labels, and music bloggers. Honestly, it was hard to contain myself to an hour long set. Especially after that extended Halloween DJ Mix I did last week! But I managed to distill it all into a streamlined moody mix that’s just perfect for the warm windy nights we’re having in So Cal. Lovespirals ‘Love EP’ Out Now

Lovespirals is the musical project of musician, Ryan Lum, and vocalist, Anji Bee – your humble Chillcast hostess… The first single from our fourth album, Future Past, to get the full remix treatment is “Love” – an atmospheric drum ‘n’ bass tune that recalls some of our earliest work together. A half dozen producers from totally different musical schools of thought set my poppy yet ethereal vocals to completely new musical scores. From angular drum ‘n’ bass, to lush downtempo, to atmospheric ambient music, this moody collection covers a lot of sonic ground. Chillin’ with Lovespirals #78

Ryan and Anji take a minute out of their busy schedule (well, 30 mins. actually) to fill you in on all the latest band news, including Lovespirals’ appearance at the Harlot Happy Hour with Karmacoda and Divasonic next Friday, Ryan using the iPad DJ app, Sonosaurus Rex, Anji recording vocals for 2 versions of the same song; one with Ryan and one with The Grooveblaster, releasing the Love EP (featuring remixes by Soul Whirling Somewhere, 7Day Visa, Chill Factor-5, Falling You, Divasonic, and Xurba), being featured on the CDBaby Music Discovery Podcast, Anji playing WeRule on the iPad with a Lovespirals fan, seeing Robert Rich perform in Pomona (and visiting him next weekend!), bumping into Autumn Reeser and finding out she loves Future Past, plus a long clip of “Love (Xurba Remix)” from Lovespirals’ brand new Love EP. BTW, it turns out the last time Lovespirals did DJ sets was December 2004 for Relax @ Kitsch Bar in Costa Mesa. Anji with Karmacoda at Harlot

Lovespirals will return to San Fran for what is sure to be another great night at Harlot on July 9th. Once again, Anji will join Karmacoda for their amazing rendition of “Motherless Child” from Lovespirals’ 2007 Motherless Child EP, as well as backing vocals on one or two of the band’s original songs. Ryan will be doing iPad DJ sets throughout the night, including a special “Anji Bee” set between live performances by Divasonic and Karmacoda to debut songs from her upcoming new album. He’s sure to include a track or two from Lovespirals’ brand new  Love EP, which includes a remix by Divasonic.
