Anji’s Top 20 Songs of 2019

Haven’t done an episode of The Chillcast since September, but I wanted to share my fave tracks of the year, so here’s my playlist in Spotify and Apple. Not sure if I’ll be getting back into podcasting next year or not, so feel free to follow me on your streaming service of choice to see what I’m listening to.

The Spotify player above will allow you to stream the full playlist (with commercial breaks) even if you don’t have an account. The Apple Music player below will only play you clips of the songs if you do not have an account.

Catalina Island Camping

Just got home from a lovely and rejuvenating camping trip on Catalina Island with Ryan. I already miss the gorgeous weather and idyllic conditions over at Little Harbor. We are currently having record high weather in Los Angeles, well in excess of 100 degrees all across the county, including the beaches! If only I were still in Little Harbor, chillin’ with a sea breeze… Some highlights from the trip were unexpectedly perfect weather — since the meteorologists predicted fog and cool temps, being the only campers at the beach front spots for 2 nights, spotting buffalo in camp for the first time, making vegan s’mores around the camp fire all 3 nights, and having AMAZING sunsets with unobstructed views all 3 nights including an awe-inspiring simultaneous sunset and moonrise on the Autumn Equinox. I’m sure that Ryan and I will talk a little bit about our experiences on a Chillin’ with Lovespirals band podcast sometime in the near future.

Chillin’ with Audra

This weekend I got a chance to hang out with friends and fellow former Projekt Records label-mates, Audra. I hadn’t seen brothers Bart and Bret Helm (also of Black Tape for a Blue Girl) in years! They drove down from Arizona ( along with their drummer, Jason) to play a show at Club Eterno, in Los Angeles, on Saturday night. This was the first time I had heard the post-Projekt material from their latest album, Everything Changes. The band have definitely evolved their sound over the past few years, with a slightly more aggressive edge and more of a rock feel. Their live set was very confident, too. Check out this video I shot of their new song, “Syd Barrett.”

Anji’s New Year To-Do List Video

Just popping in via video to wish you all a Happy New Year and to talk about some of the things I am working on for 2010. Gosh! Can you believe it’s already 2010? It sounds so futuristic… But then again, could we have imagined we’d be communicating like this 10 years ago? I was still having trouble uploading 64k mp3s via dialup, for crying out loud! Its absolutely unreal how much the internet has evolved the past decade, and I’m sure we’ll see even more evolution over the next decade. Hopefully you’ll still be following my content stream. Thanks again for your support and love!

Every Day Is Halloween – Postmarks

Just thought I’d pop in to send you a little Halloween love with this free download by one of my fave indie pop bands, The Postmarks. They did a really cute cover of Ministry’s “Every Day Is Halloween” a few years back and are still offering it on their site. Because the navigation of their site does not allow one to link to specific pages, I can’t link to their audio section and am forced to deep link it directly here. Boo! But please do go visit the The Postmarks site as they have more free songs, videos, and fun stuff to check out.

Bebel Gilberto at Hollywood Bowl

Thought I’d share some of the video I took at this weekend at the Blame It On Rio Fireworks Spectacular at the Hollywood Bowl. It was fantastic to see Bebel Gilberto perform with the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra out under the stars. The music is so achingly beautiful and romantic… Seu Jorge was amazing, as well, he has such a strong voice and stage presence. And their ending finale was simply magic! To say nothing of the Brazilian Carnaval dancers, drummers, Capoeria artists and out-of-control fireworks display… Man, what a night! I actually had a sense of what the bowl must’ve been like when it was first built, with the lovely vintage orchestra arrangements and that old school sense of glamor that Gilberto and Jorge brought to the stage. Sigh…

Cyntia Sponsored by Anji Bee

I finally got word back from the Pacific Marine Mammal Center that my “Meals For Seals” sponsored pinniped is Cyntia, a California Sea Lion pup. Apparently she is a special case, as she came in not only malnourished and dehydrated, but with an eye injury, as well. Poor thing! Cyntia has been at the center for about 3 months now, and after medical care, vitamins, and food, she is finally able to join the other pinipeds in the swim tanks and eat whole fishes. Apparently she is eating 5 and a half pounds of fish per day! We think Cyntia might have been one of the 3 pups that Ryan and I saw in the nursery the day of our visit. Check out this short video I took of them, they are absolutely adorable!

Help the La Jolla Seals Remain

Can you believe that Attorney Paul Kennerson has been working hard for years to remove the beloved La Jolla seals from “Children’s Pool” at Casa Beach? Everybody else seems to loves them as they are a huge draw for tourists and locals alike. Now that seals are in trouble all up and down the coast, it seems a particularly poor idea to kick them out of this little cove. On top of that, the plan for removal of the seals is to play a recording of dogs barking 24/7, to the tune of $700,000 a year. What???

Sasha Fan Spotlight on Anji

My fangirl status has just reached another high today as I am in the Fan Spotlight on the official site of Laker guard, Sasha Vujacic. OMG! As of today, when you visit vujacic.net, you will see my little face TWICE on his homepage; once for said spotlight, and the other for the Ask Sasha A Question area, which I posted about previously. This is actually my third time making the news on Sasha’s site. I was also one of 3 “Vujachicks” features in an article called Sasha Spirit showing various fans holding up signs for Sasha at Lakers games. Please read my Sasha Vujacic Fan Spotlight interview and feel free to leave a comment there on the site.
