Lovespirals On New Projekt Holiday Compilation

Lovespirals recorded a brand new rendition of Anji Bee’s original track “Happy Holidays” for a new Projekt Records holiday music compilation. This new version is classic Lovespirals dream pop with its soaring ebo guitar and glacial tempo. Anji’s vocal are by turns sensual and sublime, with a mournfulness befitting a shoegazer version.

Ain Soph Aur feat. Anji Bee on Internet Archive FREE

An extremely rare recording of an experimental gothic industrial noise project from the mid 90’s featuring Anji Bee is now available for free streaming or download on the Internet Archive. The Long Beach based group, called Ain Soph Aur, was formed when Bee and Datura bandmate, Justin Johnsen, met neighbor, Alan Wilkes, through a meeting of the Golden Dawn. Their mutual interests in mystery schools, experimental cut up writing, and dark improvisational music led to some very interesting musical collaborations. The bulk of When I See You was performed live in one session at Wilkes apartment, while “We’re Not Out Of The Woods Yet” was improvised later at Bee and Johnsen’s apartment. Several other friends collaborated on both recorded and live material with this trio over their short existence, but this particular recording is just the core group.

Ain Soph Aur – When I See You (1997)

1997 recording by a Long Beach, CA, group known as Ain Soph Aur. Primarily a live improvisation recorded directly to 4-track using keyboard, electric guitar, electric bass, percussion, micro cassette recorders, male and female voices, and live effect processing. The band members included vocalists/tape manipulators, Alan Wilkes and Anji Bee, as well as musician/producer, Justin Johnsen, with occasional guest musicians.

Datura Single on Internet Archive

The Internet Archive has launched the IUMA Collection on their service. This is independent music culled from the website, whose full name is Independent Underground Music Archive. Two songs from my duo with Justin Johnsen are included, listed under the short-lived band name, Delphinium.

Here’s the band story, taken from our old mp3.com page:

Delphinium are Justin Johnsen and Anji Bee, who have made music, DJ’d radio shows and created fanzines together since the early 90’s.

Coming together as a recording project at Long Beach City College, Johnsen and Bee have gone through many changes to become Delphinium. Originally collaborating on Justin’s solo project, Ravensong (as well as Anji’s fanzine, “Substitution,”) their collaboration slowly morphed into the musical duet, Datura, with which they made a name for themselves in the underground industrial-goth scene of Long Beach and surrounding Orange County areas.

Always eager to explore new ideas, the two became DJs at the notoriously avante garde college radio station, KUCI 88.9 fm (in Irvine, California) where they were exposed to many new musical ideas and partnerships. Datura began to take a back seat to a plethora of smaller side projects of a more experimental nature, as well as their heavy involvement in the radio station itself over the following few years.

Now the duet has returned to complete and release their body of material, under the new name of Delphinium. Still searching for a label to release their first album, the band are offering a 9 song DAM cd through mp3.com with a combination of 24, 16, 8 and 4 track recordings. They also have a number of additional demo tracks which they plan to re-record digitally in the near future.

Well, obviously the re-recordings never happened, and we never hooked up with a label, either. But we have these two songs online as a record of my time previous to joining Love Spirals Downwards.

Aerotek & Anji Bee “My Lonely Sunset” Sneak Peek

Its no secret that Chilean trance producer, Aerotek, is a longtime fan of Bitstream Dream. He dreamed of one day working with Anji on some tunes… and 2012 is the year that dream came true! The newly formed duo have several tracks underway, with one on the brink of release via renowned UK trance label, Perceptive Recordings. Stefano, however, could not resist sharing it with the world ahead of schedule. He has featured “My Lonely Sunset” in an excellent guest mix for the Sunset Melodies vidcast on YouTube. Check out the tune at the 3:50 mark of the video. Also in this mix is a sneak peek at a second new Aerotek song, called “Girls In Pink Shirts.” This lovely 7-song set is enhanced by gorgeous videography of beautiful girls in dreamy locations, quite perfectly reflecting Stefano’s aesthetics. 🙂 Shout out to Pure Bliss Vocals for posting this set on their site.

‘Put Some Music On EP’ Out Now

Anji Bee’s first single from her upcoming debut solo album was recently released by 3345 Music. The Put Some Music On EP includes The Grooveblaster mix from his latest album, Out Of The Past (which AcidTed described as, “a bit wee small hours, smokier and sleazier” than the original mix), plus a dubby mix by 3345 Music’s own 3C, and 2 brand new remixes by Intensity of Sound, the project of veteran German dance producers, Marcel Grasmück and Kay Praag. Gothic Paradise Reviews “Blessed”

Gothic Paradise has posted a review of the new Falling You album on their site. It reads, in part:

The album kicks off with “Blessed”, with haunting ambient soundscapes that slowly build and flow with the addition of guitar and the equally haunting vocals. While exact credits are not given, I’m so familiar with the guest vocalists with this as well as their other projects that I believe I can match them up. Anji Bee is a newcomer to this project lending her soft, sweet voice to create such a soft, sweet piece.

Nice to know my vocals are easily recognizable, though it would be nice if each song title included “featuring” with the vocalist/lyricist name to make it easier for folks not as familiar with our voices.

Lovespirals ‘Feel So Good EP’ Out

Lovespirals have just released a 40 minute, 9-track extended single of “Feel So Good,” from their 2010 album, Future Past. Last December, Sony Acid Planet held a remix contest for Lovespirals’ funky, Pink Floyd-esque, retro electro-rock tune, and over 40 producers put their own unique stamp on the original track. The Feel So Good EP features the very best of the bunch.

Stream the Feel So Good EP from Bandcamp:

There’s the slinky trip hop grooves of Yumenomado’s grand prize winning “Film Noir Mix” and Noizz Factor’s jazzy “Glamour Mix,” both of which have a decidedly organic feel. Or check out the more electronic oriented mixes by DJ Chris and National Pool, who rely more on loops and classic drum machine patterns. If you’re into heavy beats, then the Electer and 7 Day Visa mixes should fit the bill. Def Men Walking took the song in a completely different direction with the addition of MC work and an old school Manchester feel. And then there’s Jack Ketch’s “Peckaries Parts 1, 2 & 3” which takes the song’s most Floydian elements and constructs an ode to the classic rock band that David Gilmour himself would likely chuckle over.

Anji Bee‘s soulful vocals hold the release together with their delicate balance of earthy sensuality and otherworldly ethereality, with each mix playing up different aspects. While some producers left the arrangement and vocal sound nearly untouched from Ryan Lum’s original mix, others played with sampling or pitch to use the voice more as a musical element.

This is a digital-only release available on most major online music stores including Bandcamp, linked below.

Thanks to all of the bands and producers that participated in the remix contest, as well as to our friend, Jamahl Richardson, for his 7 Day Visa remix. If you dig their remixes, be sure to check out their original music. Thanks also to Scott of ithinkitsnice for his amazing artwork.

Anji Bee on ‘Out Of The Past’ By GROOVEBLASTER

The second full-length album by The Grooveblaster, Out Of The Past, was recently released via Bandcamp and other digital retailers.

Once again, producer Gerald Belsha enlisted Anji Bee (of Lovespirals) and Yasi Baby! of (Pacha Massive) to lend their lyrical and vocal talents to his retro-styled jazzy electronica. Anji is featured on the Philly soul styled “Put Some Music On (Good Times)” and the bittersweet pop gem “Smiling, while Yasi sings on the upbeat, funky “Dare” and the laid back “Lady Groove,” which debuted at #4 and spent 2 weeks on the Below Zero Beats Top 10 chart.

The 13 track album also features guest vocals by Berlin chanteuse, Jana Tarasenko, as well as a host of groove inducing instrumentals. “Stretch Out and Relax” featuring Jana debuted at #7 in the Below Zero Beats top 10. Instrumental cut, “It’s in Her Kiss,” was also featured on the recent Chillcast with Anji Bee: 5 Years of Chillin’ free compilation, alongside Bee’s own version of “Put Some Music On,” co-produced with her Lovespirals partner, Ryan Lum.

Bee had previous contributed to The Grooveblaster’s 2008 album, Cities, Streets, and Bebop Nights, on the tracks “Whole Wide World” and “Summer Days.”

Featuring several tracks with a few different female vocalists, the album creates a party vibe that anybody who appreciates the origins of a genre like hip-hop will certainly enjoy.
