The Grooveblaster’s new album, Cities, Streets & Bebop Nights, is the featured album on the ultra cool Below Zero radio show and blog this week. As you probably know, I contributed vocals and lyrics to 3 tracks on this album (including a remix of my band, Lovespirals), alongside great collaborations with Yasi Baby! of Pacha Massive, Laura Harley, and Daca Kopanja. This top rated radio show airs Sunday nights in San Francisco on Energy FM 92.7 from 8 pm to Midnight (PST) and in Paris on Tonic FM Mondays 12 - 1 am (PST) and Fridays 11 - 12 pm (PST). You can also listen online via NetMusiq Tuesdays 10 am (PST) or anytime via Live365.
By the way, you still have a few days to enter the big end-of-2008 Chillcast 8-CD “Grab Bag” Contest which includes a promo copy of the great Minus1 compilation CD put together by Below Zero DJ’s Mason Rothert, Jason Teplitsky, and Sinukus.
I’m a bit distracted this week, but then again, with the holiday season upon us, who isn’t? But rather than bombard you with Christmas music, I’m gonna soothe you & groove you with some seriously mellow make out music. Sorry to tease you with more pre-releases, but I do make up for it with 2 free mp3s!

As promised, this week I present a special artist feature on loopmaster extraordinaire, The Grooveblaster. Gerry and I spoke via phone about his long musical history and the process of creating his new album, Cities, Streets & Bebop Nights. He shares lots of really interesting stories, and coupled with the tunes, I think this feature will give you a nice portrait of the man behind the music. Warning: I do a say a few naughty words and play a few non-podsafe songs…

Hear how Gerry had his MySpace account unceremoniously deleted, was denied digital distribution by CDbaby, was contacted directly by a band to ‘cease and desist’, and how he turned his musical career around from outlaw underground remixer to chic retro-lounge downtempo fave of KCRW DJ, Raul Campos, as we preview tracks from his latest album, Cities, Streets, & Bebop Nights.
As I contributed vocals and lyrics to 3 of the tracks, I’m really excited about the album, but honestly, the whole thing is fantastic and includes collabs with the great Yasi Baby of Pacha Massive and posafe artist, Laura Harley, as well as great instrumental tracks with a sexy retro feel. There are a number of songs available on the podsafe music network to play on your show:

"Anji's sweet, sweet, sweet, sweet voice... I remember the first time I ever heard her, way back in the day, I said she could read me a Chinese menu or the phone book and I would be all happy!"
-- C.C. Chapman of Accident Hash
"Anji's voice wouldn't be out of place in a smoky jazz or blues bar somewhere down in a dimly lit cellar. Sultry with a voice like syrupy silky satin with a marshmallow middle and a honey topping."
-- Most Recognizable Voices in Podcasting, Sept. 2007
"Cosiness abounds as the silken voiced Anji Bee - lead singer of chillout band Lovespirals - pours a cocktail of mellow dance music. Mmm..."
-- Radio Times, July 2007
"If you're looking for a different brand of 'grown and sexy' in the podcast world, check out Anji Bee. This young lady is bringing it - from production, to her voice, to the music selection - she is doing her thazizzle!"
-- Fave of Friday Favecast
"No other voice in the podosphere is more sultry than Anji Bee."
