Continuing on from last week’s darker theme, today’s show has a bit of a gothic flavor, filled with melancholy. Half new tunes favoring moody guitar and female vocals, the second half is filled with cover songs or side projects of The Cure, whom I am lucky enough to have tickets to see next week at The Pantages Theater. While putting together today’s play list I seem to have taken a bit of a dark turn. In this one hour set of often pop edged electronica tunes, there is quite a bit of darkness, but there’s also a lot of power. With generous helpings of old time blues and jazz amongst the uber  modern electronica productions, there are some very interesting contrasts going on. And did I mention there are tons of top notch artists included? With some amazing vocals? And bunches of free downloads, to boot? Enjoy!

Chillcast Top 20 Podsafe Songs of 2008

I had a lotta fun listening back to all the great podsafe songs that were released last year. So many talented artists made their music available via the Podsafe Music Network and IODA Promonet, which is a beautiful thing… Of course, I’m lucky enough to have many more songs and albums sent to me for what we call “special permissions,” but my tradition is to celebrate the music that was made legal for any and all podcasters to use in their shows. At a time when bloggers are proclaiming podcasting as a dead medium, I think it is especially important for us to appreciate the increasing growth of high quality podsafe music and to support the artists who support the art form of podcasting. Being both an indie artist and podcaster, I can see and experience that wonderful symbiotic relationship from a unique perspecitve, and let me say that I do not think podcasting is dead by a longshot. But hey — its 2009, let’s get this party started!

Grooveblaster CD Featured on Below Zero

As you probably know, I contributed vocals and lyrics to 3 tracks on this album (including a remix of my band,  Lovespirals), alongside great collaborations with Yasi Baby! of Pacha Massive, Laura Harley, and Daca Kopanja. This top rated radio show airs Sunday nights in San Francisco on Energy FM 92.7 from 8 pm to Midnight (PST) and in Paris on Tonic FM Mondays 12 – 1 am (PST) and Fridays 11 – 12 pm (PST). Chillcast #134: CC Asia Band Contest

Back on The Chillcast #122, I presented a spotlight on the CC Asia Band project that I took part in. At that time, the collection of 21 songs known as CABACA had just been released digitally on the Jamendo and StreetVoice websites. Now the CABACA album has been released as a gorgeous limited edition CD, as well. On top of that, the ccMixter community has been hard at work creating remixes using various files taken from the songs, sometimes a vocal, sometimes an instrument. This episode is a collection of some of those remixes. These songs are all Creative Commons licensed free downloads!
