As promised last show, I am taking the week off from producing Chillcast, but I couldn’t leave you hanging this week! The following show was originally produced and released for New Year’s Eve 2007. I’m guessing many new listeners haven’t heard it yet, and old school subscribers haven’t heard it in awhile. I just checked it out and think it sounds pretty sweet! So please enjoy this internationally diverse, podsafe, 90+ minute DJ mix of upbeat house, downtempo, electropop and lounge tracks. Bazooka Joe, host of the excellent solipsisticNATION podcast, invited me to participate once again in an “exquisite corspe” mix. The basic gist is that 9 electronic music podcasters – including Joe – each selected one song, based solely upon hearing the track that was selected right before them. Joe took all the tracks and edited them together, choosing to keep the podcaster comments until after all the music had been played. You can check out the fascinating results on today’s show!

Chillcast Top 20 Podsafe Songs of 2008

I had a lotta fun listening back to all the great podsafe songs that were released last year. So many talented artists made their music available via the Podsafe Music Network and IODA Promonet, which is a beautiful thing… Of course, I’m lucky enough to have many more songs and albums sent to me for what we call “special permissions,” but my tradition is to celebrate the music that was made legal for any and all podcasters to use in their shows. At a time when bloggers are proclaiming podcasting as a dead medium, I think it is especially important for us to appreciate the increasing growth of high quality podsafe music and to support the artists who support the art form of podcasting. Being both an indie artist and podcaster, I can see and experience that wonderful symbiotic relationship from a unique perspecitve, and let me say that I do not think podcasting is dead by a longshot. But hey — its 2009, let’s get this party started!

Snuck out to the see the sunset just after recording the show and boy was it nice… Had the Becket & Taylor song totally stuck in my head! When I got back I saw that my favorite podcaster had just launched a brand new podcast/project called Listen to Your Kids; you go Jules! Anyway, I’d describe the mood of this episode as decidedly upbeat. I’m really digging the new year.
