Anji Bee Hosts Mothpod #223

Once again, Anji Bee (of The Chillcast with Anji Bee and Lovespirals) brings a dreamy aspect to The Mothpod this week in a show packed with lovely female vocals (a few boys, as well!) and tons of fantastic free downloads. Zack “The Mothman” Daggy contributes a set-within-a-set, as well as the closing track. The opening quote is read by Wiley Wiggins, from the Richard Linklater film, Waking Life – one of Anji’s all time favorites. Listen below to The Mothpod #223: Where I Am.

Anji Guests on SolipsisticNATION

Bazooka Joe, host of the excellent solipsisticNATION podcast, invited me to participate once again in an “exquisite corspe” mix. The basic gist is that 9 electronic music podcasters – including Joe – each selected one song, based solely upon hearing the track that was selected right before them. Joe took all the tracks and edited them together, choosing to keep the podcaster comments until after all the music had been played. You can check out the fascinating results on today’s show!

Anji on Friday Favecast MJ Tribute

Download Friday Favecast: Remember the Time

My friend and fellow podcaster, Fave Nitemare, put together a fine tribute episode of his award-winning Friday Favecast in honor of the passing of pop legend, Michael Jackson. He sent word out through Twitter that he was looking for audio comments for the show, inviting folks to share their memories of this iconic entertainer. In addition to talking about how MJ influenced my own music growing up, I suggested Fave play the sexy Todd Terje mix of Jackson’s soulful 70’s song, “I Can’t Help.” There’s a lot of really great MJ related music in this episode, so be sure to check it out: Friday Favecast: Remember the Time (official shownotes et al.).

This week one of my very favorite podcasters called in to the show for a special collabocast edition of The Chillcast. Please welcome DJ Macedonia of Radio BSOTS, aka Jason Smith of Both Sides of the Surface, Endless Shouting Matches with Yourself, and now BSOTS Gone Buck Wild. Jason and I chat about many things in this 90 minute show including Camp Lo-Fi getting FIOS, MTV Videos, the origins of BSOTS, college radio (WCDB Albany for him, KUCI Irvine for me), podcasts vs vidcast, social media overload, Podsafe Music Network vs IODA Promonet, vinyl vs mp3s, and of course, Jason’s faves like Daedalus, Flying Lotus, The Long Lost, DJ Shadow Endtroducing… LP, Aaron Jerome Time to Rearrange, Budabeats net label, and Slumberland: A Novel.

TGrundy’s latest “superfriends of podcasting” collabocast is out and it is a real doozy! This time around, we got together to share songs that express why we feel it is important to “Get Up, Get Into It, Get Involved” and GET OUT AND VOTE! 14 podcasters came together to create this nearly 90 minute set of 17 songs guaranteed to inspire you to step away from your desk come Tuesday, November 4th — if not sooner – to cast your ballot. My personal choice was the classic Chicago funk track, “Pollution,” by Pieces of Peace, which is a free download from Promonet. Enjoy!

I’m a day late, but this is still very worth checking out! I participated in TGrundy’s special Color Him Father Collabocast released yesterday, alongside my podcasting friends Fave Nitemare, EJ Flavors, and Darren Keith, plus the lovely Anewlis. Now this is not a podsafe music show like The Chillcast is, but I still wanted to feature an indie artist who seriously deserves some recognition. That artist is singer/songwriter Celia Chavez who recently released an album inspired by her father called Sailor’s Daughter. As fate would have it, she sent me the CD this month – perfect timing for this show. Better yet, Celia took the time to record an intro talking about how her father inspired her music and this wonderful, warm album. So please take a listen to this very personal collection of songs and thoughts put together in honor of Father’s Day.

Chillcast #102: NIU Support Collabocast

This week I present a very special extended collabocast edition of The Chillcast with the help of my 16 of my fellow music podcasters. This is by far the biggest podcast project I’ve put together to date and I am really proud of how well it turned out. This episode was inspired by an email from my listener, Nik, from Northern Illinois University. I’ll explain more in the show intro… Its been a very intense year for many of us and I really appreciate the outpouring of love and support from everyone that I’ve received and wanted to share some of that love with Nik and his friends, as well as Tony Pucci and his family, and many others who I’ve spoken with privately in recent weeks but won’t call out by name… Thank you so very much to all of the podcasters and bands who participated, and if you didn’t get a chance to collaborate this time around, don’t worry, this won’t be the last collabocast I do! One last note, this episode is a bit of a cross between the normal Chillcast fare and the sound of my old Unwind podcast, if you’ve ever checked that out. Enjoy!

Chillcast Chat with Matthew Ebel

I’ve been wanting to do some more conversational Skype podcasts like the two I did with Julien Smith (Chillcast/In Over Your Head Special and Chillcast/In Over Your Head Special #2). Turned out that fellow podsafe musician and podcaster, Matthew Ebel, had some time to kill this week while chillin’ in Boston, so we thought it’d be fun to hook up for an informal chat about our common interests – music and podcasting, as well as everything that goes along with doing those things full time. I hope you enjoy listening to this episode as much as we did recording it, and I look forward to your feedback on the idea of me doing Skypecasts more regularly. (BTW, I sure was tempted to call this the High Chill Special…)

Warning: a teensy bit of naughty language sneaks in here and there…

I’m numbering this episode 49, just FYI…
