As promised last show, I am taking the week off from producing Chillcast, but I couldn’t leave you hanging this week! The following show was originally produced and released for New Year’s Eve 2007. I’m guessing many new listeners haven’t heard it yet, and old school subscribers haven’t heard it in awhile. I just checked it out and think it sounds pretty sweet! Chillcast #245: Long Dark Nights

With the shortened days and long dark nights of winter upon us, I was inspired to create a set of atmospheric tunes with a slightly darker edge. Much less vocal-based than many Chillcast episodes, this mix none-the-less contains a few vocal gems. Genre-wise, there’s a lot of diversity, spanning from worldbeat to drum and bass, Brazilian pop to dub step, minimal tech to deep house, with rad remixes galore. Plus there’s some sweet free downloads, to boot! Enjoy.

A ton of new music just flooded in from bands, labels, and music bloggers. Honestly, it was hard to contain myself to an hour long set. Especially after that extended Halloween DJ Mix I did last week! But I managed to distill it all into a streamlined moody mix that’s just perfect for the warm windy nights we’re having in So Cal. Today’s 1 hour show is a pretty classic summertime Chillcast mix; you’ve got a number of genres represented here with both vocal and instrumental pieces. We start out with dub, move into downtempo chillout, pick it up with deep house, then a little drum ‘n’ bass, and bring it on home with a killer dance pop track. Today’s show is a bit of a study in contrasts; the music is half mellow and half upbeat — mixing downtempo, electropop, and drum ‘n’ bass — and my personal news is partly sad and partly ecstatic. Sorry this week’s show is running late. I’ve been up to my eyeballs in all things Lovespirals, preparing for the imminent release of our new CD, Future Past.
