Today’s set underwent a few changes before going into production. While the original mix was quite good, I felt like making it more mellow once I sat down to record. After a long day and a busy week, I was eager to chillax big time. And this set really hits the spot! Chillcast Top 20 Podsafe Songs of 2008

I had a lotta fun listening back to all the great podsafe songs that were released last year. So many talented artists made their music available via the Podsafe Music Network and IODA Promonet, which is a beautiful thing… Of course, I’m lucky enough to have many more songs and albums sent to me for what we call “special permissions,” but my tradition is to celebrate the music that was made legal for any and all podcasters to use in their shows. At a time when bloggers are proclaiming podcasting as a dead medium, I think it is especially important for us to appreciate the increasing growth of high quality podsafe music and to support the artists who support the art form of podcasting. Being both an indie artist and podcaster, I can see and experience that wonderful symbiotic relationship from a unique perspecitve, and let me say that I do not think podcasting is dead by a longshot. But hey — its 2009, let’s get this party started!

Wanted to share this really cool music video by MC Yogi in support of Barack Obama. The “Vote for Hope” video was created at Ursa Minor Arts and Media in San Rafael, CA with chief animator James Curtis, using designs and direction from MC Yogi. Video funded and supported by grassroots donations. Read the artistic statement behind the video:

With the 2008 presidential election, Americans face a pivotal choice between not just two candidates, but two paradigms. We need someone who understands the complexity of our time. Someone who believes in investing in renewable energy, in education, in women’s rights, in civil rights, in healthcare for Americans. Someone who believes in dealing with global issues with diplomacy so we can restore our respect in the world. Barack Obama represents the change we need and can lead us into a brighter future.

“Vote For Hope” was written to encourage and inspire the hip hop generation—and everyone—to get involved, and contribute their time, energy, creativity, and other resources to be the change they want to see in the world. We have been inspired by the artistic and musical contributions that have been pouring out across the nation in support of Barack Obama’s campaign. Vote for Hope is our offering to this creative movement. It is our way of adding our small voice to the collective voice of millions of Americans calling for a change.
