Bay Area band Karamacoda — long time friends of The Chillcast with Anji Bee and sometime collaborators with both Lovespirals and Anji Bee — have just dropped a new album called Love and Fate. Excitingly, Anji collaborated on a duet with band founder, B. “Naive” features lyrics penned by Bee, who recorded her vocals in The Chillcuts Studio with Lovespirals partner, Ryan Lum.
In an interview with Below Zero Beats B said:
“When we wrote our last record Eternal we asked Beth and Anji to join us on vocals for the track Love Will Turn Your Head Around and it was so magical, so beautiful, I wanted to recreate that experience even more”
‘Love and Fate‘ was released March 10, 2015 on Sola Musa Music.
Love Will Turn Your Head Around (Lovespirals Remix) by Karmacoda + Beth Hirsch + Anji Bee Love Will Turn You Head Around – The Remixes (2013) + Love Me Leave Me LP (2013)
Love will turn your head around
Turn turn turn… (x6)
Turn the lights down low, light a candle
Turn my stereo on
I’m turning circles, here by myself
Dreaming of turning you on
Dreaming of turning you on
Dreaming of turning you…
Love will turn your head around
You always give your very best away
And it doesn’t matter who can see
You’re the only one that counts for me
Love is holy
When the tension gathers all around
And you feel like something’s coming down
Hold your head up, walk your ground
Love is holy
Love will turn your head around
Love
Stay
Love
Stay
What do we want its the tip of the tongue
I’m here with you now, its the song that we’ve sung
Stay
What do we want its the tip of the tongue
I’m here with you now, its the song that we’ve sung
Ooh stay
Turning in circles
Here
What do we want its the tip of the tongue
I’m here with you now, its the song that we’ve sung
Ooh stay
Turning in circles
What do we want its the tip of the tongue
I’m here with you now, its the song that we’ve sung
Love will turn your head around
Turn your head around
Stay here
Turning in circles
Take it all
Turn your, turn your head around
Stay here
Turning in circles, here by myself
Take it all
Dreaming of turning you on
Love will turn your head around
Turning in circles dreaming of turning you on
Stay here
Turn your head around
Turning in circles, here by myself
And I will lay here
Dreaming of turning you on
Don’t you stay, and I will lay
Love will turn your head around
Head around
Dreaming of turning you
And I will stay here
Love will turn your head around
Head around
Don’t you stay
Dreaming of turning you
Dreaming of turning you
Dreaming of turning you
Note: The original mix of this song appears on the 2011 Karmacoda album, Eternal, as well as single released that same year. The single also includes a radio edit. The radio edit is the version included on the limited edition blue vinyl release of Eternal. Also of note is that Anji re-recorded her vocals for this new version of the song, whereas Beth, B and Heather’s vocals are all taken from the original recordings. Anji also arranged the vocal samples for the Lovespirals mix, set to new music created by Ryan Lum, including lovely dream pop guitar work..
Currently a semi-finalist for Best Dance/Electronica Song in the 2012 International Songwriting Competition, “Love Will Turn Your Head Around ” – the collaborative effort of San Francisco band, Karmacoda, Parisian singer/songwriter, Beth Hirsch, and So Cal singer/songwriter, Anji Bee – has just been re-released in a series of re-imagined versions by a diverse and talented group of musicians, producers and DJs from around the world. This digital collection of 8 remixes by DJ Puzzle, Mr. Alfa, Synapsis, Return To Mono, Den Jones, and Anji’s band, Lovespirals (the latter featuring newly recorded vocals by Anji), plus an all-new version by Karmacoda highlighting Heather Pierce as the sole vocalist, satisfies with its mix of genres and moods. ‘Love Will Turn Your Head Around – The Remixes‘ is available in your choice of digital format on Bandcamp, or more traditionally through iTunes, CDBaby, and Amazon Mp3. Its been some time since I featured my friend, Beth, on the vidcast, so I’m excited to welcome her back with a beautiful new video for a brand new collaboration. Today we’re checking out the video for “Confusion” by Mr. Alfa and Beth Hirsch, directed by Estelle Beauvais. The single is due out late August as a digital download on Venus Recordings, but the duo are considering releasing a exclusive limited edition CD version which they can autograph for you. Show your interest in this option on the new Mr. Alfa and Beth Hirsch Facebook Page.
San Francisco band, Karmacoda, invited both Anji Bee and Ryan Lum of Lovespirals to collaborate with them on music for their 4th album, Eternal — out now on iTunes and other digital and CD retailers. The album will also be available as a limited edition, audiophile grade 192g, blue vinyl LP on August 9th. Check www.karmacoda.com for purchase details.
The ear-catching “Love Will Turn Your Head Around” is arguably the gem of the album; dark, languid, and teasingly dangerous sounding: in short, everything a trip hop song should, in the ears of this listener, be.
“Epic” includes guitar work by Ryan Lum, as well as Rhodes piano by Eamonn Flynn of SF duo, Under. The Epic Single had its world premier on The Chillcast Episode #275. In addition to the original album and reprise mixes, the single includes an upbeat dance remix by Andy Sybilrud of SF electronica act, Return To Mono. Karmacoda frontwoman, Heather Pierce, has said “Epic” is her “favorite song” and it will likely be yours, too, once you hear her sultry siren’s call on this jazzy trip hop torch song.
All Music Guide’s Ned Raggett wrote:
On their 2011 album, released ten years after their debut, Karmacoda demonstrate that they’ve become stalwarts of their own particular scene, inspired into existence by trip-hop and finding their own easygoing way around downtempo music inspired by Massive Attack‘s slow mood-out crawls.
As long time fans and friends of Karmacoda, Lovespirals were honored to be included in the creative process of this very talented band. Be sure to check out recent episodes of The Chillcast with Anji Bee to hear these tracks and more from Karmacoda’s fantastic new album, which debuted at #191 on the CMJ Radio 200 Chart!
San Francisco band, Karmacoda, recently released the first single from their upcoming fourth album, Eternal. “Love Will Turn Your Head Around” is multi-artist collaboration featuring vocals and lyrics by — not only Anji Bee — but also one of her musical idols, Beth Hirsch, who was famously featured on Air’s hit album Moon Safari. “Love Will Turn Your Head Around” debuted at #3 on the Below Zero Top 10 chart for April 17th, and has been featured on the Pure Bliss Vocals site, Dave’s Lounge, Properly Chilled, SomaFM’s Lush station, Kimberly Wilson’s Tranquility du Jour, The Mothpod, Expand Your Musical Horizons, and of course, The Chillcast, where is was first premiered.
You can purchase the Love Will Turn Your Head Around Single on iTunes. It includes the original 6 and a half minute version, plus a radio edit. Karmacoda’s album, Eternal, is due out August 2nd, 2011.
You can also listen to the single on YouTube, Spotify, and other digital music services.
“Love Will Turn Your Head Around (Radio Edit)” – Karmacoda feat. Beth Hirsch & Anji Bee Single (2011)
Love will turn your head around
Turn turn turn… Turn the lights down low, light a candle
Turn my stereo on
I’m turning circles, here by myself
Dreaming of turning you on
Love Dreaming of turning you on
Dreaming of turning you
Love will turn your head around
Turn turn turn…
You always give your very best away
And it doesn’t matter who can see
You’re the only one that counts for me
Love is holy
When the tension gathers all around
And you feel like something’s coming down
Hold your head up, walk your ground
Love is holy, love is holy
Love will turn your head around
Hanging with you, you’re a lyrical child
Taking your time on the miracle mile
Loving with you, you’re a lyrical child
Taking the time on the miracle mile
What do we want; its the tip of the tongue
Here with you now; its the song that we’ve sung
Love will turn your head around
Lighting up this place I keep
I can hardly get the sleep I need
I’m wondering if I can turn the eye in the storm
Love
Ritualized; its all I can be
Underneath a shrouding of me I wonder
If I, if I can turn, turn the eye
Long, it was so long
Love will turn your head around
Long, it was so long
And I will lay here
Ooh child
Don’t you stay, and I will lay here
Ooh
To calm your storms
Turn your head around
Stay here
I will play here Turning in circles
The eye of the storm
Ooh stay
Don’t you take it all Turning in circles
Ooh child
Of your calm
Inheriting your world’s what I seek
Turn your, turn your head around
Longing to the be the eye of your calm
Ooh ooh love Dreaming of turning you on
Turn your, turn your head around
Longing to be the eye of your calm Dreaming of turning you on
Ooh stay Dreaming of turning you
Eye of calm
Love will turn your head around
Ooh calm
The eye of calm
NOTE:This highly collaborative song began with some music and lyrics by B, of Karmacoda. Then I came up with my lyrics, inspired both by what he sang and the instruction he gave me to imagine what I might be doing late at night. Beth said she was inspired by my part to come up with her own, incorporating the “turn” concept into what would become the song’s title. And Heather wove her vocals seamlessly through all of our concepts, adding her own unique twist to the lyric. Finally, B had the gargantuan task of taking all of these various vocal bits and combining them to create one cohesive whole. No small feat!
Continuing with my 5th anniversary celebration, this week’s show is a real doozy; packed to the gills with great new music. I’m proud to present the world premier of the brand new Karmacoda single which features Beth Hirsch and me as guest vocalists and lyricists (my Lovespirals partner, Ryan Lum, also contributed!) Today’s set underwent a few changes before going into production. While the original mix was quite good, I felt like making it more mellow once I sat down to record. After a long day and a busy week, I was eager to chillax big time. And this set really hits the spot! So get set to chill out to an hour of new tunes in a variety of styles from artists both new and old to The Chillcast. Oh hey, sorry but the Deva Premal song is no longer available for free download from Promonet…
