“Just One Word” Single Released on Bandcamp

Up until now, Anji’s soulful downtempo track, “Just One Word,” was only available as a hidden bonus track on the Bandcamp digital release of ‘Love Me Leave Me.’ Interest in the song sparked from including the sensual track on her popular YouTube channel, Happy Healthy Vegan, inspired her to release the Lovespirals co-production officially as a stand-alone single. It is currently a Bandcamp exclusive, with a music video to follow shortly on Anji’s Official YouTube channel. The cover art features a previously unreleased shot from the 2012 album dphotoshoot with Aga La Maga.

Falling You Album “Shine” Features Anji Bee

Bay Area recording project, Falling You, just released a new album on Project Records called ‘Shine‘. This highly collaborative album features a song with lyrics and vocals by Anji Bee called “World On Fire.” This marks the second time Bee has worked with band founder and songwriter, Michael Zorko, who previously collaborated in 2011 for the song “Blessed,” his album, ‘Adore.’

REVIEWS:

Another beautiful release from Falling You that finds John Michael Zorko collaborating with some truly remarkable vocal talents, resulting in a stunning collection of songs that are moving, inspiring, and powerfully emotional.

Highly recommended…

Intimate and fragile or powerful and full of energy, the tracks are dedicated to the light that is inherent in all of us. Following this idea, soft, harmonious and accessible Shoegaze and Dream Pop sounds dominate. Creativity, love and beauty are the powerful drivers of these songs.”

Lovespirals “Heartstrings” Digital Single Released

Part Dream Pop, part Americana, the new single from Anji Bee’s band, Lovespirals, is considerably more upbeat than “Brother Against Brother,” the first single. Band founder, Ryan Lum, juxtaposes driving blues riffs and dreamy shoegazer guitar, finding a delicious balance between his earlier Love Spirals Downwards work and more recent Lovespirals work. Anji’s vocals exude the confidence born from years of familiarity with the material, with a lovely harmony of her natural earthy tone and haunting upper register.

“Heartstrings” has been 12 years in the making, beginning as a collaborative idea between Lovespirals and indie electronica duo, Beauty’s Confusion. The song was based around an acoustic guitar loop of Ryan, to which Chris of BC added beats and a Johnny Mars-esque electric guitar. The project came to an standstill over artistic differences, and in 2005 Anji sent her vocal files to DJ Pain 1 to gauge interest in the project. He quickly created a demo, featuring an amazing rap with his friend Guante. He wasn’t satisfied with the mix, however, and his version fell by the wayside, as well.

In 2007, Anji resuscitated the project as the theme song to a music podcast, enlisting Ryan to add his signature guitar leads to the original demo and to professionally record the chorus vocals for a shortened edit. The song lay dormant, once again, until production on Anji’s first solo record began in 2010. She was determined to create the definitive version of “Heartstrings,” building upon the 2007 version. The ensuing recording had such a strong Lovespirals vibe that it was decided to hold onto the cut until the band was ready to release their next album. Which brings us to this, the final version of “Heartstrings.”

Mr. Alfa + Anji Bee Release Doomed/Who Will Help The Girl Single

On the brink of releasing her debut solo album, Anji Bee first releases a new single in collaboration with German producer, Mr. Alfa, on his Venus Recordings label. The 2- song single, ‘Doomed/Who Will Help The Girl,’ was begun last November, when Alfa Kay sent Bee the instrumental demo which became “Doomed.” Perhaps ironically, Bee added these distinctly unromantic lyrics to the tune in a Valentine’s Day 2013 recording session. Its unusual for Bee to use her first take scratch vocals in a finished song, but the immediacy of the recording adds a refreshing looseness to the nearly 7-minute jazzy downtempo track. The flip side, “Who Will Help The Girl,” invites the possibility of future love with its questioning lyric and more upbeat chillout vibes.

Bee and Kay previously collaborated on the free single, “Winter Sun,” released last Christmas season, and Kay has remixed several of Bee’s tracks, including the title track of her upcoming CD, ‘Love Me Leave Me,’ and her collaboration with Karmacoda and Beth Hirsch, “Love Will Turn Your Head Around.” You can find all of these tracks at anjibee.bandcamp.com

“UP ALL NIGHT” by BLU + ANJIBEE / THEDEEPR MX

New Single On Bandcamp!

BOCrew from Paris just dropped a single on Bandcamp called “Up All Night” by TheDeepr which features a vocal by Anji Bee. This song goes back to the Secret Mixter project held in 2010 on the CCMixter site. The site allows musicians to collaborate with vocalists and other musicians using files that are deemed as Creative Commons, which means that collaborations generally happen without artists’ direct input. This is one of the more impressive mixes that I’ve heard from the site.

Anji feat. on The Morphism ‘Madness SHift’ EP

Out now on Bandcamp is the debut release by The Morphism, called ‘Madness Shift E.P.’ Anji Bee contributed lyrics and vocals to the b-side cut, “Cetus Aero.” This track hearkens back to Anji’s work with Rom diPrisco, with an old school ‘Need For Speed‘ feel.  Anton of The Morphism is a long time fan of Rom’s game soundtrack work, as well as his musical project Bitstream Dream, which is how this collaboration was born. The Morphism recently remixed the new Anji Bee recording of the classic Bitstream Dream track, “Love Me Leave Me,” as part of the promotion for the upcoming album of the same name.

Anji Bee Collabs with Alfa Kay on “Winter Sun”

Check out the soulful and jazzy “Winter Sun” by Alfa Kay and Anji Bee out now! This track is part of an ongoing project by Venus International, who have created 5 different vocal versions, all of which are free to download on Bandcamp. He hoped this song would help bring awareness to the plight of homeless during the winter months, encouraging listeners to repay the karmic debt of a free download with a favor to those less fortunate during cold winter days, such as the gift of food, clothing, blankets or a kind word.

Falling You Album ‘Adore’ Features Anji Bee

The 2-time NAR Lifestyle Music Award winning musical project, Falling You, just released a new album entitled, Adore. Enigmatic band founder and producer, John Michael Zorko, has long worked with a revolving cast of talented and varied female vocalists including Suzanne Perry (of Melodyguild and Love Spirals Downwards), Victoria Lloyd (of Claire Voyant and Mono Chrome), Dru Allen (of Mirabilis and This Ascension), Erica Mulkey (AKA Unwoman), and Shikhee (of Android Lust) — just to name a few — and now adds Lovespirals vocalist, Anji Bee, to that list.

Bee contributes lyrics and vocals to the ambient opening track, “Blessed,” penned about her relationship with bandmate, Ryan Lum, who engineered and recorded her vocal tracks for this long distance musical collaboration. Friend of Lovespirals and Falling You, Ken Lee (of Eleven Shadows), mixed and mastered the track (and indeed, the whole album) alongside Zorko at his Blueberry Buddha Recording Studios.

Lum’s former bandmate, Suzanne Perry, contributed lyrics and vocals to the track, “Champagne,” which follows Bee’s cut on the album. With its summery dream pop feel, Perry’s collaboration brings to mind her work with Melodyguild. Suzanne’s vocals were engineered and recorded by Melodyguild bandmate, Cris Miller (of Silver Screen). Suzanne had previously been featured on Falling You’s 2006 album, Human, and 2008 album, Faith.

Another highlight of the album is closing track, “Alchemy,” featuring Kirsty Hawkshaw. Famous for her work with Opus II, BT, Tiesto, and Delerium, Hawkshaw has a long and impressive list of dance music credits to her name. Her breathy voice and high harmonies add a lovely depth and focus to Zorko’s light-as-air beats and textures.

Though known for his melancholic mix of ambient textures and ethereal vocals, Zorko wanted to “explore a more optimistic side of emotional music and this gift called life.”  To this end, Zorko employed liberal use of heavy, distorted, electric guitar in the vein of classic 90’s shoegazer acts like My Bloody Valentine and Ride, which may surprise his long time listeners!

Adore is available as a digital download now directly from the Magnatune site, with CDs to follow soon. Watch for it on iTunes, Amazon, eMusic, etc later this month.

As a side note, Zorko contributed a Falling You remix to Lovespirals’ Love EP released in June 2010.
