“Just One Word” Single Released on Bandcamp

Up until now, Anji’s soulful downtempo track, “Just One Word,” was only available as a hidden bonus track on the Bandcamp digital release of ‘Love Me Leave Me.’ Interest in the song sparked from including the sensual track on her popular YouTube channel, Happy Healthy Vegan, inspired her to release the Lovespirals co-production officially as a stand-alone single. It is currently a Bandcamp exclusive, with a music video to follow shortly on Anji’s Official YouTube channel. The cover art features a previously unreleased shot from the 2012 album dphotoshoot with Aga La Maga.

Chillcast #383: Body Music

For my first official show on Machine.FM, I’m going old school. Today’s one hour set is very laid back, with some classic downtempo, chill out, and trip hop tunes – many with an organic feel – mixed in with the more contemporary electronica genres. There’s a mix of vocal and instrumental tracks, though you know me, I always focus on lyrics… This one is kinda sexy with just a hint of sadness. Plenty of free downloads included –oh, I’m doing my shownotes a little differently now, click on the artist name for the free song links where you see the word “free” listed. Hope that makes sense!

Anji Bee Solo Album Released

Anji Bee, of The Chillcast, has just dropped her debut solo album, ‘Love Me Leave Me,’ featuring a mix of old and new songs recorded and produced over 3 years in her home studio. Though Bee has released 4 albums, 6 eps and numerous singles with her So Cal duo, Lovespirals, she’s still found the creative energy to collaborate on dozens of songs with artists such as Berlin club sweetheart, Bloody Mary, Parisian poptronica chanteuse Beth Hirsch, and Chilean trance producer, Aerotek, over the past decade.

I love working with producers internationally via the Internet, but often feel my vocals could have been pushed further had we been in the studio together,” says Bee of her collaborative work. “After we released the last Lovespirals album [‘Future Past‘ released on Bee’s own label, Chillcuts, in 2010], Ryan suggested we put together an EP of fresh reworkings of some of my favorite Internet collaborations.” Bee is referring to her long time producer/partner, Ryan Lum, who originally formed their band as Love Spirals Downwards in 1991 and sold over 50,000 albums as one of Projekt Records most successful acts. Lum brings a lushness to the material that helps tie the songs together, regardless of genre. “There was a surprising flow to the recording sessions and the tracks were turning out so amazing that I was inspired to write several new compositions with Anji,” admits Lum.

The 11 tracks on ‘Love Me Leave Me’ flow between deep house, trip hop, and world influenced poptronica, exploring every aspect of love; desire, satiation, longing, disillusion, and contentment, expressed at the peak of Bee’s abilities. “Its funny to listen back to the original recordings of songs like “Love Me Leave Me” and “Perfect Boy” [originally released by Canadian act, Bitstream Dream, in the early to mid 2000s], because they sound like demos compared to the album versions. I’ve grown so much as an artist over the decade.” Not only has her vocal ability improved, but her recording techniques. “In the early stages of production, we listened to some of the best female voice recordings I could find – Karen Carpenter, Fleetwood Mac, Sheryl Crow, Sade – for inspiration in getting her vocals to sound better than ever,” recounts Lum.

Following a low key album fundraiser initiative which urged fans to contribute what they wanted while buying their pick of 5 remix singles of the title track released over several months earlier this year, Bee pre-released the album for her Bandcamp fans. The ultra limited edition eco-friendly CD of  ‘Love Me Leave Me’ and  sexy full color 11×17 poster began selling moments after the page went live. Both the physical CD and digital download come with a digital-only bonus track, called “Just One Word,” as well as a 3-page digital booklet with 3 additional boudoir portraits of Bee by erotic photographer, Aga Furtak, plus the album lyrics and credits. Bandcamp offers 2 gift sets, both of which include a copy of ‘The Chillcast with Anji Bee Presents: 5 Years of Chillin‘ compilation on CD. The Holiday Gift Set also includes all 4 Lovespirals albums on CD, plus the 2012 Projekt Records holiday compilation, Ornamental, which is the only way to purchase the Lovespirals dream pop version of Bee’s original song, “Happy Holidays.”

‘Love Me Leave Me’ is also available on iTunes, Amazon, CDBaby and other digital retailers.

Chillcast #363: Young + Beautiful

I thought about calling this week’s one hour episode “Tiny Violins” because I selected an awful lot of songs with strings in them, but decided instead to name it after the Lana Del Rey song that played such a haunting role in the soundtrack of The Great Gatsby. I was partly inspired by the bittersweet beauty of that film while selecting this playlist, as the overall sound is much more moody than upbeat. Its an eclectic set, genre wise, with hints of vintage music and a nostalgic feeling overall. There’s some great free downloads included, so be sure to grab your faves from the links below.

Anji Bee Releases 5 Years of Chillin’

Download 5 Years Of Chillin’ for FREE at anjibee.bandcamp.com

March 2011 marks the 5th Anniversary of The Chillcast with Anji Bee, the twice-nominated “Best Podsafe Music Podcast,” on the Mevio Network. Since 2006, Bee has had over 5 million downloads of nearly 300 audio episodes and 55 video episodes, featuring approximately 1,500 bands and artists in a wide range of electronica genres guaranteed to soothe you and groove you.

To mark this historic occasion, Bee has assembled an hour long compilation, 5 Years Of Chillin’, featuring brand new unreleased tracks by Chillcast regulars MoShang, Chill Factor-5, 7 Day Visa, Lovespirals (Bee’s band with partner, Ryan Lum) and Anji Bee, herself — plus hard to find tracks by Adam Fielding, Mr. Meeble, and The Grooveblaster, as well as a few favorite songs by Ernesto + Markus Z, Under, Science for Girls, Sunburn in Cyrpus, Steve Kilbey + Martin Kennedy, and Karmacoda (who collaborated with Lovespirals on a modern version of the classic Americana spiritual, “Motherless Child”). The album was mastered by Robert Rich of Soundscape Productions, with assistance by Lum – who also shot the cover photograph – while Bee designed the album artwork and attendant promotional graphics.

All of the artists have generously donated their music gratis, and Bee will be making this musical collection available for free download through music sites including Bandcamp, Soundcloud, Last.FM, and Mixcloud. A small pressing of eco-wallet promotional CDs will be available soon.

On top of releasing the 5 Years of Chillin’ comp, Bee is hosting a series of CD giveaway contests on The Chillcast in March and April, from artists including Nu Shooz, Balligomingo, and Karmacoda. Come join the celebration over at www.anjibee.com!
