It is with great pleasure that I present a very special 1-hour interview feature on Swedish singer/songwriter/producer, Ernesto! He just released his 4th full-length album, Suffice Suffice, and I’m excited to share songs from this highly personal artistic effort with you. As a huge fan of his work, it was a joy to speak with him about his musical background, songwriting and recording history, personal beliefs, and the process of putting this album together. Jonatan is quite intelligent and well spoken, as well as an incredibly talented songwriter and soulful singer, so you are in for a treat!

The first show of 2011 takes a look back at some of my personal favorite tunes from 2010. Unlike my “Top 20 Podsafe Songs Of…” shows of years past, this selection is not confined to only podsafe music. Because I now play more music received directly from promotional companies and bands than ever before, I just couldn’t restrict myself that much. With the shortened days and long dark nights of winter upon us, I was inspired to create a set of atmospheric tunes with a slightly darker edge. Much less vocal-based than many Chillcast episodes, this mix none-the-less contains a few vocal gems. Genre-wise, there’s a lot of diversity, spanning from worldbeat to drum and bass, Brazilian pop to dub step, minimal tech to deep house, with rad remixes galore. Plus there’s some sweet free downloads, to boot! Enjoy.

Its an embarrassment of riches over here at Chillcast studio, as I’ve totally hit a motherlode of great new music! I absolutely can not get enough of the new Ernesto/Motorcitysoul EP, but then again, I can never get enough Ernesto in general. LOL! I introduce a bunch of new bands to the show this week, so you’re sure to discover something you love. I can’t quite pin down the overall sound of the mix; genres these days are so splintered and complex I don’t even know what I’m playing half the time! But you’ll recognize the feel – a little deep, a little downtempo, a little dub – some with vox, and some instrumental. Its a sophisticated set designed to engage the brain as much as the body. Enjoy!
