Check out the soulful and jazzy “Winter Sun” by Alfa Kay and Anji Bee out now! This track is part of an ongoing project by Venus International, who have created 5 different vocal versions, all of which are free to download on Bandcamp. He hoped this song would help bring awareness to the plight of homeless during the winter months, encouraging listeners to repay the karmic debt of a free download with a favor to those less fortunate during cold winter days, such as the gift of food, clothing, blankets or a kind word.

Note: This song was originally recorded and released in 2010 as an Anji Bee single, in a disco house style. Oddly enough, the holiday track sprung from a discarded song called, “One More.” Scrapping that song’s vocals, she found some holiday themed lyrics she’d penned several years before and came up with a whole new vocal melody for the abandoned house track. In 2012, Anji’s band, Lovespirals, were invited to contribute something to a new holiday compilation on Projekt Records. Rather than cover a tired Christmas classic, the duo reinterpreted “Happy Holidays” in a melancholic dream pop style.

Well I don’t know what its like where you live, but out here in Los Angeles its been raining for days. We Southern Californians are spoiled rotten by the sun, thus a string of grey days tends to send us into a funk. So if today’s show seems a little more melancholy than usual, you’ll know why.
