Posts about Anji Bee’s band, Lovespirals.

Lovespirals “Motherless Child” Music Video

The first single from Lovespirals’ 2007 album, ‘Long Way From Home,’ was a heart-rending ethereal blues cover of the anonymous American spiritual, “Motherless Child.” It also appears on the ‘Motherless Child EP‘ released September 16, 2007. This video was filmed by Lovespirals’ vocalist, Anji Bee, on a road trip to Sonoma County, California.

The ‘Motherless Child EP’ is available on iTunes, Amazon, Google Play, Spotify, Bandcamp and other online music stores.

Lovespirals “Heartstrings” Music Video

“Heartstrings” is a lovely high point in the tracklisting for Lovespirals’ upcoming 5th album. The song is a celebration of the duo’s creative connection and the love that goes into Ryan and Anji’s music. The music video, created by the band themselves, is a beautiful representation of the song, shot during the height of California wildflower season. With 3 years of experience shooting, editing and producing videos for their YouTube channel, Happy Healthy Vegan, this creative couple have created what is surely their best and most professional looking music video to date.

Lovespirals “Heartstrings” Digital Single Released

Part Dream Pop, part Americana, the new single from Anji Bee’s band, Lovespirals, is considerably more upbeat than “Brother Against Brother,” the first single. Band founder, Ryan Lum, juxtaposes driving blues riffs and dreamy shoegazer guitar, finding a delicious balance between his earlier Love Spirals Downwards work and more recent Lovespirals work. Anji’s vocals exude the confidence born from years of familiarity with the material, with a lovely harmony of her natural earthy tone and haunting upper register.

“Heartstrings” has been 12 years in the making, beginning as a collaborative idea between Lovespirals and indie electronica duo, Beauty’s Confusion. The song was based around an acoustic guitar loop of Ryan, to which Chris of BC added beats and a Johnny Mars-esque electric guitar. The project came to an standstill over artistic differences, and in 2005 Anji sent her vocal files to DJ Pain 1 to gauge interest in the project. He quickly created a demo, featuring an amazing rap with his friend Guante. He wasn’t satisfied with the mix, however, and his version fell by the wayside, as well.

In 2007, Anji resuscitated the project as the theme song to a music podcast, enlisting Ryan to add his signature guitar leads to the original demo and to professionally record the chorus vocals for a shortened edit. The song lay dormant, once again, until production on Anji’s first solo record began in 2010. She was determined to create the definitive version of “Heartstrings,” building upon the 2007 version. The ensuing recording had such a strong Lovespirals vibe that it was decided to hold onto the cut until the band was ready to release their next album. Which brings us to this, the final version of “Heartstrings.”

Lovespirals “Sandcastles” Music Video Out

Music video for “Sandcastles,” the epic closing track to Lovespirals‘ album, ‘Free and Easy.’ Enjoy 2 gorgeous sunsets over the Pacific Ocean, shot at the pristine So Cal beach, Crystal Cove. The first sunset was shot from down on the beach, while the second one was filmed from up on the bluff. The second sunset is the most amazing technicolor sky Anji and Ryan have ever experienced, and it really brings the gospel-like chorus and ending electric guitar solo to life!

Lovespirals “Brother Against Brother” Video & Single Released

The first new single from Lovespirals since their 2010 album, ‘Future Past,’ is in many regards a return to form for band founder, Ryan Lum. Lum exploded onto the American dream pop scene back in 1991 as Love Spirals Downwards on the Projekt Records label, quickly establishing himself as one of the best ethereal producers and guitarists this side of the Atlantic. “Brother Against Brother” is swirling, ambient, folk-tinged dream pop replete with heavily effected ethereal guitar and female vocals by his bandmate, Anji Bee. Bee created this appropriately heavenly video filled with fluffy slo-mo clouds and the duo dressed like angels in all white using her iPhone and Final Cut Pro. Each member selfied their own performance in the video. 🙂

Lovespirals Release Happy Holidays 2 Song Single

Out now on Bandcamp are two very different takes on the same holiday original, penned by Lovespirals vocalist, Anji Bee. While the lyrics are decidedly melancholy, the original 2010 recording adds an upbeat twist with its catchy disco house style, replete with wah wah guitar and disco strings. The 2012 version is classic Lovespirals dream pop with it’s soaring ebo guitar and glacial tempo. Anji’s vocal are, by turns, sensual and sublime, with a certain cheekiness to the house version and a mournfulness on the shoegazer version. There’s more than one side to this complex duo, and this single is the perfect illustration of their musical and emotional duality. Bandcamp offers affordable digital downloads in your choice of audio format including high-quality download in MP3, ALAC (Apple Lossless), AAC, Flac, Ogg Vorbis, WAV and AIFF formats.

Love Will Turn Your Head Around (Lovespirals Remix) Lyrics

Love Will Turn Your Head Around (Lovespirals Remix) by Karmacoda + Beth Hirsch + Anji Bee Love Will Turn You Head Around – The Remixes (2013) Love Me Leave Me LP (2013)

Love will turn your head around
Turn turn turn… (x6)

Turn the lights down low, light a candle
Turn my stereo on
I’m turning circles, here by myself
Dreaming of turning you on
Dreaming of turning you on
Dreaming of turning you…

Love will turn your head around

You always give your very best away
And it doesn’t matter who can see
You’re the only one that counts for me
Love is holy
When the tension gathers all around
And you feel like something’s coming down
Hold your head up, walk your ground
Love is holy

Love will turn your head around

Love
Stay
Love
Stay

What do we want its the tip of the tongue
I’m here with you now, its the song that we’ve sung
Stay
What do we want its the tip of the tongue
I’m here with you now, its the song that we’ve sung
Ooh stay
Turning in circles
Here
What do we want its the tip of the tongue
I’m here with you now, its the song that we’ve sung
Ooh stay
Turning in circles
What do we want its the tip of the tongue
I’m here with you now, its the song that we’ve sung
Love will turn your head around
Turn your head around
Stay here
Turning in circles
Take it all
Turn your, turn your head around
Stay here
Turning in circles, here by myself
Take it all
Dreaming of turning you on
Love will turn your head around
Turning in circles dreaming of turning you on
Stay here
Turn your head around
Turning in circles, here by myself
And I will lay here
Dreaming of turning you on
Don’t you stay, and I will lay
Love will turn your head around
Head around
Dreaming of turning you
And I will stay here
Love will turn your head around
Head around
Don’t you stay
Dreaming of turning you
Dreaming of turning you
Dreaming of turning you

Note: The original mix of this song appears on the 2011 Karmacoda album, Eternal, as well as single released that same year. The single also includes a radio edit. The radio edit is the version included on the limited edition blue vinyl release of Eternal. Also of note is that Anji re-recorded her vocals for this new version of the song, whereas Beth, B and Heather’s vocals are all taken from the original recordings. Anji also arranged the vocal samples for the Lovespirals mix, set to new music created by Ryan Lum, including lovely dream pop guitar work..
