Couldn’t resist doing another Valentine’s Day mix for the Cupid’s Hunt Podcast Collaboration that’s been going on since 2008. This year, I combined my celebration of love with the celebration of the 10 year anniversary of The Chillcast, by selecting one romantic or sexy song from each season of the show. Its interesting to hear the evolution of the music over the past decade from mellow chilled out electronica to the more edgy urban crossover sound of recent years. Chillcast #440: Tell Your Friends

Now that I’m totally free of any responsibility to networks, I decided to try something different, taking advantage of Mixcloud’s more permissive rules regarding music usage. Today’s mix is made up of original album cuts, rather than bootleg remixes, underground producers or “podsafe” music. I recently discovered the site, FreeLegalMusic, that lets you download free music via your local library, and was surprised by how many great new hip hop and r&b albums and singles they offered! All of these artists have previously been featured on the show, but most of them were remixes, so I thought it would be nice to share their music in its original, intended form. Ain Soph Aur feat Anji Bee “Nothingness” on Internet Archive

Another set of rare recordings by the Long Beach based gothic industrial experimental music group, Ain Soph Aur, has been added to the Internet Archive. This 4 song collection was recorded at Bee and Johnsen’s apartment several months after the first band release, and each track was recorded separately with slightly more structure and intent than the former material.

This second collection of music from the Ain Soph Aur collective was recorded by Bee and Johnsen on their 4-track cassette tape machine, with significantly less input from Wilkes, though his presence is still strongly felt. “Obsession for F.,” in particular, was built around a reworking of one of his poems and the percussion was created in part by Bee triggering drum sounds via contact mics placed on Wilkes body.

Machine.FM is calling it quits this December, due to lack of listener funding and increasing station costs. The Chillcast has been with The Machine for the past 2 years, so this is a tough break. We were all hoping that some solution would present itself, but, I guess things are tough all over. I threw together this last minute episode to get the word out about the station going radio silent, but letting folks know that The Chillcast will not be silenced. Lovespirals “Sandcastles” Music Video Out

Music video for “Sandcastles,” the epic closing track to Lovespirals‘ album, ‘Free and Easy.’ Enjoy 2 gorgeous sunsets over the Pacific Ocean, shot at the pristine So Cal beach, Crystal Cove. The first sunset was shot from down on the beach, while the second one was filmed from up on the bluff. The second sunset is the most amazing technicolor sky Anji and Ryan have ever experienced, and it really brings the gospel-like chorus and ending electric guitar solo to life!
