Chillin’ with Lovespirals Episode 29: Aurally Seduced

Ryan and Anji give a brief rundown of their New Year’s celebrations — including Anji’s Tofurky Roast feast, the band wax poetic on recent audio equipment updates, including a Ryan rant on speakers and subwoofers, Ryan becomes an iLike convert, Anji shares fan mail connecting her to French Maid TV, Anji shares her “Internet Land Bridge Theory” and that’s about it…

5 Things You Don’t Know About Anji

Crikey! I just noticed that C.C. Chapman had “tagged me” for that 5 Things Meme. Gulp! I guess I owe it to him to try and come up with 5 things people might not know about me and 5 other poor saps to do the same. Darned chain mail!

  1. My parents named me after the actress, Angie Dickenson.
  2. I attended 3 different high schools in 3 different states; California, Arizona, and Massachusetts.
  3. I moved out of the house right after High School. I started off in Downtown L.A., then moved to Hollywood, decided I hated the metropolitan area and settled down in the Harbor Area, instead.
  4. I’ve never left the North American continent; the furthest I’ve traveled to is Mexico City.
  5. OK, here’s the embarrassing one: I appear in Journey’s “Faithfully” video. I’m in one of the concert crowd shots, sitting up on a guy’s shoulders. I used to see it on MTV all the time… Good luck spotting me on the tiny grainy YouTube video!

So let’s see, I’ll tag Roger Smalls, Comic Strip Blogger, Karen & Karla of Rumor Girls, and Soccergirl. We’ll see if any of them actually do it or not…

Anji’s Currently Reading…

Simone de Beauvoir: A Biography I’m finishing up Deidre Bair’s Simone de Beauvoir: A Biography at long last. I picked this up used at a college book sale back in the late 90’s and somehow never got around to reading it. My M.O. is to buy a small stack of books and stash them away for future reading, so I guess I stashed this one too well… I usually mix up my reading between biography, classic literature, spirituality, journals/letter collections, and a little contemporary fiction every now and then (generally given to me by someone) so I don’t get too bogged down by any one type of book. I don’t tend to read much self-help or how-to books, though I do have a decent collection of Arts and Crafts movement books for inspiration with my Craftsman bungalow.

I’ve been an avid reader ever since I was a tiny child; I had already read all the Dick and Jane books before starting kindergarten so my teacher had me assist the other children in learning to read, even the Spanish speaking kids! I used to spend whole weekends devouring books, until we got our first computer… But still, I find that nothing can replace the cozy feeling that curling up with a book in the tub gives me. Or reading in bed before going to sleep. Or sitting at the breakfast table with a cup of coffee and good book. Heck, where’s my book? What am I doing at the computer?

Anyway, I always kind of enjoy seeing what other folks are reading, so I figured I’d make that a new part of my blog, for the curious. I’m actually also reading Thoreau’s Walden, which I like to bring with me to the beach because it just seems wrong to read it indoors.

Podcasting News Mentions Showgirls

Podcasting News gave my new collaborative podcast, ShowGirls, a little writeup yesterday. Last year they also carried the “controversial” PodShow press release, the 7 Hot Women of Podcasting, that inspired the show concept. Honestly, what the heck is so upsetting about “hot women” anyway? Since when did podcasting go P.C.?

7 women of podcasting have banded together for Podshow’s Showgirls, a new podcast starring Cali Lewis from Geekbrief TV, Share from Rock and Roll TV, KFC from the Podchick podcast, Anji Bee from the Chillcast, SoccerGirl from SoccerGirl Incorporated and Karla and Karen from Rumor Girls along with moderator Franklin McMahon.

“It’s evident that in the past year female podcasters have become a huge force in this new media arena” says producer Franklin McMahon, “each of these women already produce very popular shows on their own. This new program gives them a chance to let their hair down and chat, and it also gives listeners a treat by featuring their favorite podcast stars…multiplied by seven.”

Topics include the Showgirls’ insights on everything from world events, to entertainment, to technology as well as a behind the scenes look at what it takes to produce their podcasts.

Rather than simply type up my Top 20 podsafe picks for 2006, I figured I’d put together a special episode of The Chillcast so you can hear them yourself! It was actually pretty difficult to keep the list to just 20, I have to admit. The quality of podsafe music just keeps increasing as the weeks and months go by, and I’m sure there’s still more great tracks from 2006 left for me to discover in coming episodes. I’m definitely looking forward to the new crop of podsafe tracks of 2007!

2007 is here

Anji on New Year's Day I guess some people get off on large crowds, loud music, and all night drinking, but that’s really just not my style. I threw an intimate dinner party at my house, which was a first for me on New Year’s Eve. We didn’t party hard, just ate a lot of great food, drank a bit of wine, and hung out. The nice thing about not overdoing the booze on New Year’s Eve is feeling fresh the next morning and ready to take on New Year’s Day. Nothing rejuvenates me like quiet time spent in nature! The fewer the people, the better. No cars, no machines, nothing but sunlight, water, and plants… and a special someone to share it with. My new year’s day was just perfect. Got out onto the trail just as everyone else was leaving, had a 2 hour hike in perfect weather, got back to the car before dark, then had a tasty meal – including freshly juiced pineapple, yum – before driving back home to take a nice hot bath and relax. Ahh…
