Chillcast #387: Waiting For Summer

Its a little early in the year for new releases, so the first show of 2014 is filled with great releases left over from 20143 — some quite recently released. This mix is largely instrumental with a smattering of vocals, many of them bootleg sampled from pop songs.The show flows from super laid back chill trap to slightly more aggressive melodic dubstep with some upbeat funkiness thrown in for good measure. Lovespirals Release Happy Holidays 2 Song Single

Out now on Bandcamp are two very different takes on the same holiday original, penned by Lovespirals vocalist, Anji Bee. While the lyrics are decidedly melancholy, the original 2010 recording adds an upbeat twist with its catchy disco house style, replete with wah wah guitar and disco strings. The 2012 version is classic Lovespirals dream pop with it’s soaring ebo guitar and glacial tempo. Anji’s vocal are, by turns, sensual and sublime, with a certain cheekiness to the house version and a mournfulness on the shoegazer version. There’s more than one side to this complex duo, and this single is the perfect illustration of their musical and emotional duality. For my first official show on Machine.FM, I’m going old school. Today’s one hour set is very laid back, with some classic downtempo, chill out, and trip hop tunes – many with an organic feel – mixed in with the more contemporary electronica genres. There’s a mix of vocal and instrumental tracks, though you know me, I always focus on lyrics… This one is kinda sexy with just a hint of sadness. Chillcast Video #123: Lovespirals [Final Episode]

Yes, it’s sad but true. Chillcast Video has come to an end. Begun in January 2008, the show has enjoyed 16 and a half million views. Its been a good run, but its time to move on. Though both Chillcast Video and The Chillcast with Anji Bee podcast have been dropped from the BiteSizeTV lineup,  tentative plans are already in place to relaunch the show with a  new network.
