Chillcast #194: Deep Breath

This week I really needed to just take a deep breath, count to 10, and let it all go… Nothing soothes me quite like music and today’s mix really did the trick for me! Look forward to some great vocal pieces as well as some very nice instrumentals, with a blend of downtempo, ambient electronica, worldbeat and crossover pop genres. With a little bit of Buddhist philosophy thrown in for good measure, this episode is sure to get ya chillin’ out. Oh and more than half of these tracks are FREE DOWNLOADS – yay!

Shine Wins Best Female Vox Garageband Award

Lovespirals first Future Past single, “Shine” has won the Garageband Reviewer’s Pick Award for Best Female Vocals in the Alternative Pop genre for this week. This is an ongoing contest judged by site users, primarily musicians who are also participating in the contest held by this unique i-Like owned music site. Songs are judged in an anonymous fashion, with the reviewer having no information about the track other than the soundfile itself until after they have rated it and posted their review comments.

Quite a haunting song. Nice mood with the Rhodes, and the female singer has a sexy voice which works really well when layered. Reminds me of the French band Air. Good sound, well done.

Chillcast #193: OMG

Today’s show is a bit of a study in contrasts; the music is half mellow and half upbeat — mixing downtempo, electropop, and drum ‘n’ bass — and my personal news is partly sad and partly ecstatic. Be sure to listen through to the end of the show to hear my big dorky fangirl brush with #18 of the Lakers! I’m still debating whether or not I want to put the video on YouTube; poor Sasha is already getting teased enough online without an “OMG OMG OMG” video adding to the craziness. Ryan and Anji of Lovespirals talk about their Thanksgiving holiday and the exciting lovespirals.com exclusive pre-release launch of Future Past, as well as their first new single, “Shine.” The band talk about the impact of Twitter and Facebook messages on their sales, as well as the uniqueness of selling music in today’s social media enviornment. Anji also breaks down the various music sites that she posted “Shine” to, explaining each of the site’s unique functions and how you can use them to become a Lovespirals Street Team member (or to promote your own band!). This week’s featured artist is actually the same artist as last time but under a new name! John Boswell of Colorpulse decided to give his science-based musical video project its own identity: Symphony of Science. He’s created two new songs and videos under the updated moniker, and today’s show features a great mashup of spoken word by Neil deGrasse Tyson, Richard Feynman, Bill Nye, and — of course – Carl Sagan called “We Are All Connected.” His first song, “A Glorious Dawn,” was recently released as a special 7″ vinyl, through Third Man Records. I must admit I was starting to grow melancholy over the year’s end, but between all the kind messages coming in from Lovespirals fans and this mix of upbeat electropop and downtempo music, I can’t help but smile. There truly is much to be thankful for, not the least of which is the amazing variety and depth of  podsafe music this year! Lovespirals ‘Future Past’ CD Released

You can now buy Lovespirals’ brand new album, Future Past, exclusively from the Lovespirals webstore! This gorgeous 6-panel eco-friendly digipak includes all of Anji Bee’s song lyrics plus beautiful photography by Susan Jennings and original artwork/design by ithinkitsnice. The CD itself was replicated using real-time glass mastering and vintage CD manufacturing equipment for audiophile-class sound, care of Groove House Records. Anji (and Ryan) will personally autograph your copy if you request it, PLUS you’ll receive an immediate digital download of the album when you purchase the CD directly from Lovespirals. In keeping with this green release, the band are packaging orders in non-bleached mailers made of 90% recycled content (50% post-consumer). You can read more about the Future Past eco-friendly packaging in an earlier blog post. Future Past will also be distributed via Projekt Records, CD Baby, Amazon, iTunes, eMusic, Rhapsody and all the usual online music sources, but the band wanted to make the album available to fans as soon as possible. As an independent band, it is difficult to schedule simultaneous release on all platforms, so those will be trickling in over the next few months. Sorry this week’s show is running late. I’ve been up to my eyeballs in all things Lovespirals, preparing for the imminent release of our new CD, Future Past. Today I’m premiering our first single from the album and I’m as nervous as a mother sending her child off to their first day at school! Our digipaks are all arriving here today via FedEx and I’m in a highly excitable state, but I still managed to put together a nice little show for ya’ll. Of particular note is the 3 song set of Drum ‘n’ Bass I close out with – quite rousing!
