Some people are convinced that The Rapture will occur this weekend. If that’s the case, then I figure we’re gonna need a really good playlist for the occasion. From darkly contemplative ambiance to celebratory booty shakers, this set runs the gamut, encompassing both the light and the dark.  With beat matching, crossfades, and dropped in samples, this week’s show is completely DJ style, with no talking in between tracks. I want to dedicate this set to fellow DJ and KUCI alum, Clay Young, who passed away earlier this week. You will be missed, baby!

Weird name for the show today, I know. Its just that I noticed I had unintentionally included 3 cover songs in today’s mix of chilled downtempo and deep minimal house. This is a really sweet set today, with plenty of variety in genres and styles, all with a lovely laid-back vibe. Anji Bee Guests Properly Chilled

Lovespirals vocalist, Anji Bee, guest hosted a one hour set on the radio show, Properly Chilled, last weekend. The show airs on 101.5 FM WXGR in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, every Saturday from 6-8 pm, and streams live worldwide via http://www.wxgrfm.org. Luckily for you, it is also released as a podcast the following week. Included in Anji’s set is Lovespirals’ brand new track, “Try To Forget,” as well as her solo song, “Put Some Music On” (produced by Ryan Lum, of Lovespirals, btw…), along with several other cuts from her new 5 Years of Chillin’ compilation. In addition, she featured several recent Lovespirals remixes, including the winner of the “Feel So Good” remix competition held by Sony Acid Planet earlier this year. Also in the mix are 2 brand new Anji Bee collaborations; one with The Grooveblaster, and the other with Karmacoda and Beth Hirsch, as well as her recent collaboration with 7 Day Visa.

Properly Chilled was founded in January 2005. Dedicated to downtempo music and culture, their approach is a widely inclusive one, bringing together the sounds of nu jazz, broken beat, world fusion, dub, trip hop, deep house, jazzy hip hop, ambient electronic, idm, glitch, reggae, acid jazz, afrobeat, cosmic disco, dubstep and pretty much any other laid back child of electronic music.

Fresh from my trip to San Francisco, I present a 1 hour mix set of deep minimal tech house and soulful deep house. Got some vocal numbers in the mix, but less so than the average Chillcast. NOTE: This highly collaborative song began with some music and lyrics by B, of Karmacoda. Then I came up with my lyrics, inspired both by what he sang and the instruction he gave me to imagine what I might be doing late at night. Beth said she was inspired by my part to come up with her own, incorporating the “turn” concept into what would become the song’s title. And Heather wove her vocals seamlessly through all of our concepts, adding her own unique twist to the lyric. Finally, B had the gargantuan task of taking all of these various vocal bits and combining them to create one cohesive whole. No small feat!

Chillcast Video #57: Bonobo

Returning to Chillcast Video is French electro-acoustic artist, Bonobo, with a mysterious video for his song, “Eyesdown.” This is one of 3 collaborations with vocalist, Andreya Triana, from the Black Sands album released last year by Ninja Tune. There is also an Eyesdown EP which includes remixes by Floating Points, Warrior 1, and Appleblim & Komonazmuk, as well as the original mix and an instrumental version. This video was directed by Steve Glashier, who also directed the gorgeous video for Bonobo’s “The Keeper” which I played on Chillcast Video #43 last August.
