Chillcast Video #68: Karmacoda Premier

Today I’m proud to present the WORLD PREMIER of a brand new live acoustic video by my friends, Karmacoda. The band assembled in the Dolby Lab Theatre in their home town of San Francisco to perform the heartbreaking song, “I Am Just Not Listening Any Longer,” from their new album, Eternal. This live recording features Heather Pierce on lead vocals, B on guitar and backing vocals, and Eric Matsuno on stand up bass, with additional accompaniment by Issac Ho on piano and Mie Araki on drums. Karmacoda recorded several more tracks during this session, so check back in another 2 weeks time for another lovely live rendition of a song from Eternal here on Chillcast Video!

Gothic Paradise Reviews “Blessed”

Gothic Paradise has posted a review of the new Falling You album on their site. It reads, in part:

The album kicks off with “Blessed”, with haunting ambient soundscapes that slowly build and flow with the addition of guitar and the equally haunting vocals. While exact credits are not given, I’m so familiar with the guest vocalists with this as well as their other projects that I believe I can match them up. Anji Bee is a newcomer to this project lending her soft, sweet voice to create such a soft, sweet piece.

Nice to know my vocals are easily recognizable, though it would be nice if each song title included “featuring” with the vocalist/lyricist name to make it easier for folks not as familiar with our voices.

OK, OK, I know Valentine’s Day is a long way off but why wait until February to celebrate love? The longer, darker nights of Autumn are the perfect time to snuggle up with someone special, listening to love songs by candlelight. And the depth and variety of songs reflecting various aspects of love flooding my inbox this month is undeniable. There’s shades of retro everything thrown into this mix, from 70’s disco to 80’s electropop, to 90’s deep house and then some, all with delicious vocals and tantalizing lyrics. So hunker down with your loved one and enjoy!

Chillcast Karmacoda Interview Feature

This week I present my second artist feature with San Francisco band, Karmacoda. This time around we actually met up in Chillcast studio to chat live and in-person about their 4th album, Eternal, released last month. We had a really great time, which I think you’ll be able to hear in our conversation. Since we already got into the band’s history and past releases in my 2007 Chillcast Karmacoda artist feature, this time we focused solely on their new material. I close out the show with the premier of their brand new live acoustic recording of “Feel The Weight” — watch for the video on the next Chillcast Video!

Today’s musical guest is the Swedish duo of Hanna & Beatr8. I fell in love with Hanna’s voice from her collaborations with Stray (from the band Favorite Flava, with Hanna’s husband, Paul Mac Innes), so I was excited to see that she was releasing a full length album this year. Chillcast #282: Every Direction

I’ve packed a lot of music into this 60 minute episode! After last week’s extended dance mix, I thought I’d bring things down a notch and focus in on lyrics this show. Towards the end I present a set of spoken word pieces, followed by 2 chopped up vocal remixes, but the rest are those dreamy vocal tunes you’ve come to expect from Chillcast. Though primarily chillout and downtempo, the pace picks up for the final third, and the whole show includes an interesting mix of styles.

Chillcast #281: Labor Day Mix

This Labor Day weekend I present an extended 90 minute DJ mix for your listening pleasure. Primarily deep house of various styles, this set is upbeat yet chill, with a mix of vocal and instrumental tunes. There’s some brand new stuff in here, as well as a few tunes I’ve been holding on to for the right occasion. So as not to break the party mood, I kept my voice overs at a minimum, with the shortest of intros and outro and no talking in between tracks. Instead, I had a little fun mixing and cross fading tunes. Enjoy!
