Chillcast #217: Spring Fling
In case you haven’t been following my complaints on Facebook or Twitter, I am sick. Boo! But I still took the time to put together an extra special show filled to the brim with LOVE. There were so many great songs that I wanted to share with you that I included a whole half hour extra. The DJ mix styled show (no talking between tracks) is about 50/50 chilled downtempo and upbeat dance tunes featuring oodles of lovely female vocals with romantic lyrics. Chillcast #216: Soul of a Machine
As I was casting around for show subtitles this week, I tried to mentally sum up the musical theme; the music is partly mechanistic but also quite soulful in spots, and then it hit me: the Filterwolf song title was perfection! In addition to describing the music mix, it has the added bonus of being an allusion to Sasha Vujacic, who is slated to return to play with the Lakers for their first game of the Western Conference Finals this weekend. GO MACHINE! GO LAKERS! OK, Vujachick fangirlism aside, this is an interesting episode filled with a kind of cosmic, other-worldly beauty. Note: This lyric was originally written in mid-1994, though I don’t recall recording it until the Bitstream Dream song was created in 2000 and released online as a single. A totally different version with a new arrangement of the same vocal files was created by Chukimai in 2001, called the “Plastic Chair Mix.” Bitstream Dream released their version on a short-run CD called “Connected” in 2003. The Chukimai mix was only released in mp3 format. The version that appears on Anji’s ‘Love Me Leave Me’ album is an all-new recording with additional vocal harmonies and new main melodies for some portions.

Chillcast #214: Eastern World
Get ready to chillout to one hour of Eastern World influenced and/or created electronica music. This set is chock full of mysterious vocals, soothing flutes, intricate percussion, tinkling cymbals plus plenty of groovy beats and sultry rhythms. I say “Eastern World” because its a mix of Far and Middle East music influences in this set. Of course there are copious Western influences, as well. Chillcast Podcast & Vidcasts on Boxee
Both The Chillcast and Chillcast Video are now available on the Boxee Beta via a Mevio Network app. Boxee is a free cross-platform home theater program designed to organize and play all manner of media, from streaming online video and audio, to audio, video, and photos from your own hard drive, on either your computer or television. It also integrates social network aspects, so you can rate and recommend content to your friends.
Having only briefly checked it out, I can see some similarities to Hulu, Roku, and Miro (which also includes Chillcast Video). It looks like there is promise as an elegant solution to the ever-growing problem of collecting all your content in one place with easy-to-use functionality. I’m particularly excited at the prospect of using the Boxee Remote iPhone app to control my streaming Netflix content.
Chillcast #213: Sweet Vox
With the ominous sound of raging winds outside my studio window, I put together a set of sweet, sweet vocal tunes to soothe the soul and bring peace to my agitated mind.
